  1. I'm on the look out for a couple of 5A Round Pin (BS 546) connector sets. Ideally both plugs and trailing sockets in rubber (so duraplug or similar) but I'm open to options. Condition isn't critical, but obviously they need to be safe and intact! Does anybody have any that they want to move on? Many Thanks Glyn
  2. It sounds like you're thinking of ETC Labs and the #Lighthack project... Have a look here...
  3. Just one word required "... Off"
  4. Do they have to be Cadenzas? Pitlochry are trying to move on some narrow Altos... (which could be lamped with a CP43)
  5. That's because you're short! I never had a problem at your desk... But yes I quite agree.
  6. If you like the halfords stuff then they do sell all the component pieces individually. Is it worth working out what you actually use and simply duplicating them?
  7. What weight are your current castors rated for? If they aren't enough then the first thing that suffers is the ability to rotate to face the direction of travel and only then the ability to roll. My current tool case was on piddly little 3" castors rated for 150kg. In theory this was fine as the case weighs 120kg ish. It rolled well enough on a smooth stage etc, but on the semi agricutural floor of my garage was a nightmare. I upgraded to a set of 100mm/250kg (ie flightcase size) castors from screwfix for around £35 (inc new bolts, T Nuts etc) and the difference was night and day. Obviously this may not help you in the slightest! Glue
  8. I've heard of at least one venue where a total transition to an LED rig caused an increase in heating costs which over the payback period of the new rig was greater than the cost of replacing the rig?!?!?
  9. Would it be "cheaper" / or "easier" to buy a second hand pearl from ebay or similar? By the time you've paid shipping, import duties etc I imagine that you'd be in the same ball park financially. I understand that from a commercial perspective buying new is preferable, but there is something to be said for having the "real thing", rather than a no name clone.
  10. Wearing my Scout Leader Hat... Hemp (and its relative Sisal), being a natural product, tends to rot when it gets wet. Whilst this can be managed (eg by tarring it), this makes it stiffer which isn't ideal for what scouts tend to do with it. We want nice flexible rope that will wrap nicely round spars / poles when we do our lashings etc in order to achieve the maximum strength for pioneering projects etc. Sadly there were a couple of incidents a dozen or so years ago where structures collapsed (causing injuries) which were discovered to be because the rope used was rotten. As a result of this many groups and camp sites have been eliminating their stock of natural fibre ropes. If it has been properly cared for then I'd rather use a natural fibre rope, but there are more and more people who don't know how to care for it, so it becomes an issue, especially for campsites where there are many users who will leave the ropes damp and often stuffed in a dustbin where they have no chance of drying, stored in a shipping container that sweats :( As a result it often needs replacing every year, and natural fibre ropes tend to be more expensive than the man made stuff. As has been said, man made fibre ropes suffer from UV degredation, but thats another story...
  11. Just a quick reminder: It was 18 years ago tonight that the tragic events of the Station Nightclub fire unfolded. Don't stuff the pyro up the way they did!
  12. Have you seen These? Amptown do something similar that's designed to fit in their Transflex 4x2 cable cases, see here.

    Snow!

I know we don't have a FB style "Like" Button, but if we did I'd be using in for posts like this. Thankyou
  14. These may be an option, alternatively I've made them up in the 8 way van damme stage boxes, but that gets very pricey very quickly. G
  15. Syntax Cables produce a combined 2 x Cat5 & 1.5 sq mm mains cable. Probably overkill for your purposes but... Sommer Cables may produce something useful... Or this one?
  16. I've seen (but never used) these, bolted to the back of a screen. The cabling needs a bit of thought to prevent it gettign snagged / ripped out, but once that's done they seem fairly robust.
  17. Prolight do a selection of IP rated kit, including the Spectra T3 Flood. Details here...
  18. It's a 2008 Defender 110. The Sumitomo part number for the housing is 6195-0173 but I certainly can't find a supplier. A few places carry the vehicle loom half but not the male. I was tempted to try the vinegar trick. Might definitely give it a go now! If it's a Deafener then I'm sure Paul will be able to sort you out. I've had stuff for my 110 from him that I couldn't find anywhere else... Keep us posted.
  19. Is it really an unobtainable connector? This guy on ebay seems to have access to all manner of sumitomo stuff. He only lists the "popular" stuff but may be worth a try. Link What's the vehicle?
  20. Bar counter Hinges. Would a cross stage tube work better?
  21. The easiest answer is to find a local pnuematics place and talk to them. They should be able to advise on some rams with a small stroke (1" / 25mm is generally enough) and a suitable load capacity. Just bolt the castors to one end of the rams and the other end to the set truck. After that you'll need a small air tank (capacity will depend on the number of moves before refilling), a valve arrangement and some hose. We plumb these up so connecting the tank to the rams extends them (ie lifts the set piece into the rolling position) and venting lowers it to a secure position. Assuming that the tank is charged before the show, the only noise is a brief (1 second) "hiss" when the rams are vented.
  22. The core and one flange from a cable drum, painted to suit?
