  1. The light engine in the T-series fixtures is a bit more complex than just regular RGB. they have an unspecified number of other emitters in there and some clever self-calibration / middleware magic that means they're a bit more capable than regular RGB - I imagine it's not easy to copy!
  2. Elation Fuze is a RGBMA array - comes in spot or profile versions, both with gobo wheels. About 3000UKP each, I believe. https://www.elationlighting.com/series/fuze I like the Fuze fixtures a lot and you’ll find them on most of my recent jobs that need a cost-effective mover for a modestly sized house. ETC Releve are also RGBL: https://www.etcconnect.com/ReleveSpot/ I don’t actually love the Releves but they might suit your purposes. Plus ETC support is not to be sniffed at. Robe T1/T2 are also RGB+? based, but are comparably priced to a Honda Civic so maybe not a good fit here. https://www.robe.cz/t1-profile They are very nice, though. I just specified some for a big theatre over here and they work great.
  3. Updated to 4.7.8. Let me know if you spot any bugs or design weirdness. It gave me some stern warnings about maybe needing to adjust CSS, but everything looks the same to me.....
  4. The Tascam DA-6400 is 64 channel, but the idea of being tied to proprietary SSDs doesn't fill me with joy. Also, it's many, many pennies. (Significantly more than the JoeCo...) I think the JoeCo BBR64 is the "right" answer, but yeah, not cheap.
  5. https://www.audinate.com/products/dante-enabled/all/audio-recorders-players Several options there. The Tascam options appeal to me. Or just use a console that will record direct to USB Stick. I know the Yamaha consoles support that, I assume many other do too.
  6. If you have to cut costs and the Doughty track is suspect, a Unistrut based system is going to be: A bit cheaper Something non-specialist contractors may stand a chance of understanding how to install. Height saving vs pipe Easy to fit flush with the suspended ceiling. I like these vs a regular Zebedee (but expect the people to come and argue that I'm not allowed to like them because they are more expensive...): https://www.stagelightingstore.com/Light-Source-Uni-Bolt-for-Strut-Channels
  7. I mainly think that people that don't put a specifications cut sheet on their product website need to be taken out back and given a swift kicking. 😉
  8. I have a conversion to LED in my office Patt 23, but it's a decorative piece only...not very bright, but quite fun. I just replaced the lamp holder with an Edison Screw base, and then fitted a Wi-fi controlled "Smart Bulb" - I think that's a Wiz one. The height worked out just right with the base I chose. (For the curious, the stand is originally from an antique surveying tool- I drilled out the bolt hole to make a snug fit onto the spigot.)
  9. Sounds like it's maybe getting spurious input. I'd take a look at the solder joints on the input connectors in the first case.
  10. Sounds like a job for the Doug Fleenor Apathy console. 😉
  11. We jumped up to 4.7.7. All looks fine to me, apologies if you tried to logon during the update.
  12. Yeah, fake nailgun with an airline and little remote valve pointing out the side so you get a convincing "puff"? Make sure the airline exits away from the "business end".
  13. We discussed this over in Modland. While the principle stands, I don't think this is anything more specific than "look like you belong" which is hardly a well-kept secret.
  14. There's a few different booms in this image: (Lester B. Pearson Theatre, Brampton ON)
  15. I updated the software today and you didn't even notice! Enjoy the bug fixes in v4.7.5....
  16. Did you post about this recently on /r/techtheatre on Reddit? If so, I apologize for our American friends who think everywhere is America. 😉
  17. If the TiO2 is 99%+ pure, then it's considered food safe in the UK, but not currently in Europe. (BTW, A family friend worked at Tioxide in Immingham for about 25-odd years.)
  18. I'm interested in how people who manage facilities set their maintenance budgets. The way they would teach you at MBA school would be to assign a percentage of the total replacement value of the "asset" you are maintaining. 2-5% is generally considered normal - I'm curious as to whether people actually use this method or do it a different way, and also where those budgets land. I have a number in mind for how I always used to calculate this when I was a Technical Manager, but I'm curious at to what's happening out in the real world. I suspect there may be a largish number of people who have never sat down and calculated the total replacement value of their gear and may be surprised at how large a number it is.
  19. I was just thinking that sounded very low. Some clarity from the original installer might help. Does the sign have who installed it on it? (We make them declare it on the signs on our jobs.)
  20. CueServer Mini is where I usually go for this sort of thing. Successfully put in 3 or 4 in the last year. I have had a bad time with the Nicolaudie.
  21. So Jon, would it be fair to say that this is essentially an extended and enhanced version of the Strand Neo?
  22. Welcome to 'The Office' forum on The Blue Room. This section is intended for people to discuss non-technical issues related to working backstage. So that's things like... Insurance Accountancy Tax Working overseas Coming to work in the UK Starting out as a freelancer ...this isn't a definitive list but we're sure you get the idea. We hope you find the forum useful. Kind Regards The Blue Room Admin and Moderation Team
  23. I have a call booked with VL on Tuesday. Will let y'all know once the embargo is lifted. (I'm assuming that's Tuesday.)
  24. So, Vari*Lite are teasing that they're releasing a Console, but no further details beyond that right now. Does anyone know anything about it? Are we talking a true successor to the Virtuoso, or just a rebrand of a Strand console? Edit: or even, Zero 88 are the same company now, too.
