  1. Should be fixed now. There were some permissions issues.
  2. Update to this: I just did a big demo shootout of LED conventionals recently. The Prolights Eclipse was surprisingly good. I would say 98% as good as the Colorsource, at much less money. I was impressed.
  3. That’s interesting - one of the theatres I used to work in was built in the 60s and we had pictures of the original staff in the booth with pretty much the exact same “tiered booth” setup. It’s long gone now - the booth is side by side now, but I wonder if it was more common than I thought.
  4. I'm guessing so: there's a new Le Maitre that were previously called MCW Consulting, formed in 2020. https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/12723668. Same company directors.
  5. I think this might explain why they’re quiet: https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/01526624

    QL1 Alternatives

Thanks all, I was really just sanity checking that I hadn't forgotten anyone' products for consideration. M32 is probably also worth looking at, or even Midas Pro1. Although I think I would also need something like a KT9650. I kind of wish Digico made an S11: ie: half an S21. Maybe that's in the roadmap, given the naming conventions? Has anyone ever touched a Roland M-300? https://proav.roland.com/global/products/m-300/ I suspect the right answer is either: A: SQ-5 and save some money B: dLive C1500 / CDM32 and blow the budget.

Almost double the budget, unfortunately. (I checked!) I like the dLives but I don’t think it’ll work for this one.

    QL1 Alternatives

A&H are moderately backordered, but I've been advised that the QL1 is going to be arriving June 2023, whereas A&H is more like April / May 2022. Apparently A&H make (or have made) their own Dante chipset under licence instead of buying Audinate's hardware.

    QL1 Alternatives

Hey all, I have a job with a Yamaha QL1 specified. Yamaha are apparently having a hard time fulfilling orders for QL/CL series consoles, so I need to find an alternative. Any suggestions for possible alternatives I should look at? Already considering A&H SQ5, A&H Avantis. I think the Avantis is too large to fit the physical location, and the SQ is nice, but maybe not as fully-featured? I was also looking at Digico S21, which stretches the budget somewhat, and Soundcraft...something? Not super familiar with Soundcraft offerings these days. I'm replacing a Yamaha TF that they find too restrictive. Requirements: Digital Audio console. Compact: (needs to fit on top of a 19" rolling rack ideally). Have to integrate into a Dante network, Min 16 faders / 32 channels. Have I forgotten any reasonable contender in this bit of the market?
  10. If I may interject a potential parallel: In Canada we share a continent with the 800lb gorilla, the USA. In theory, most products are supposed to carry certification specific to Canada: cUL or CSA, but in practice, most AHJs will also accept regular UL marked items. The one area where that doesn't fly is electrical assemblies, on which they're very strict. (In fact we sometimes have to schedule an in-Canada special inspection of otherwise entirely legitimate electrical products that merely have the US certs.) I would imagine you could find yourselves in a similar situation. ADL: cUL = Canadian Underwriters Laboratories. (It's a lower case c because we have self-image problems.) CSA = Canadian Standards Association AHJ = Authority Having Jurisdiction UL = Underwriters Laboratories
  11. I’m going to need an ADL* for this * = Acronym Decoding List Now kindly supplied by Kerry:
  12. To return to the main topic: Were ADB/Clay Paky any help? (I actually have a call with Clay Paky this afternoon, I could ask...) (Back to the other side of this topic, I think as a venue tech, I would rather renters use the house console than attempt to troubleshoot connecting their own console of dubious provenance to my system.... Hence my suspicion that it's a "stick" to make you hire their lighting tech rather than an actual technical reason.)
  13. FYI: If you put your code stuff in code tags by clicking this button in the editor and then typing/pasting your code: then the forum won't attempt any fancy auto-formatting wizardry. Code If 3x7 keeps changing to 3*7 then this will help.
  14. I know we’re veering off-topic here, but: I assume the “amateur” company you’re working for is renting this theatre? Surely the lighting console is an integral part of the theatre functionality? How do they propose you control the lighting you’re renting from them? Have they offered the opportunity to let their staff operate the console to your instruction, at least? Maybe this is about the renter declining to pay for a lighting tech?
  15. Before anyone tries reporting this for "no rate listed" - they're clearly asking you to name a price for self-contained job as a contractor, so it is not required in this case. Thanks.
  16. There isn't much of a mid-market in the full RBGA profile market, tbh. The Chauvet Pros of this world are not significantly cheaper than the ETCs. How about the Prolights Eclipse FS: https://www.prolightsamerica.com/product/NAECLIPSEFS? You can get it with a 14 degree lens. I can't vouch for it's colour reproduction but I hear good things from my contacts. BR user @jonny_makinlightin apparently has some, maybe he can share his experience so far?
  17. We tend to use RDL stuff for this purpose, but not sure how available it is in the UK: https://www.rdlnet.com/product.php?page=712 The website says Canford sell it… Edit: just realized: your electrical boxes and cover plates are a different shape/size, so this might not be much use. Edit again: Here it is on the Canford website: https://www.canford.co.uk/Products/2025371/57-2503_RDL-D-CIJ3D-AUDIO-INTERFACE-Input-stereo-1x-dual-RCA-phono-3.5mm-in-terminal-out-white
  18. Wait, the theatre you're visiting won't permit you to use the console? For what reason? ADB have ended up as part of Clay Paky. They don't list it on the website but Clay Paky support may have access to the software: https://www.adbstagelight.com
  19. There are the Chauvet DJ EVE fixtures, which might be a better price / size fit: https://www.chauvetdj.com/products/eve-e-100z/ The Ovations are nice but not significantly different in price or size to a full size Colorsource. I have not tried the EVEs, though, so can't vouch for the light you get out of them. White only. Somewhat disconcerting that the product photographs have a bent yoke, though...
  20. The CS Jrs are actually pretty much in the same cost ballpark as the Chauvets, tbh. Also the Chauvets are not that small - they’re clearly designed to compete with the full-size CS. You should certainly not discount them on those grounds. You could also look at the Strand Acclaim LEDs, which are similarly compact and cheaper than the bigger product. I imagine the colour reproduction will be unpleasant if you go much cheaper. I hate the “lavender” white you get from cheap LED arrays. (Your ADJ and so on.)
  21. The killer feature there seems to be the assumption that "resume play on power on" is the default setting. I would agree that it's worth the 50 quid to avoid the inevitable "but that's not what it's meant for" service call.
  22. Mackie Onyx gets you most of the way there, although again you're on SD cards for the local record media: https://mackie.com/products/onyx-series-premium-analog-mixers-multitrack-usb Presonus Arc8, too. Very similar, actually. In fact, suspiciously similar. https://www.presonus.com/products/StudioLive-AR8c
  23. I'll be honest, this doesn't sound like something I would even attempt without at least a practice run, and certainly not with mere minutes to execute! How is the amp configured right now?

    Signatures

I have a favour to ask: The new software interprets "returns" as "new paragraph" and inserts an extra line space. That means that people with big (4-line) signatures are now using 7 lines of space whereas before they were using 4. Can you edit your sigs to use a "shift-return" which just starts a new line, not a new paragraph? I'll ninja-edit any particularly egregious ones, but I would consider it a great personal favour if you could do it for me... Note that the user standards request 4 lines of text, no images. Oh, and they're harder to find than they used to be, they're in Top Left Right* Menu (Your Username)>Account Settings>Signature, whereas I think they used to be under Profile. Thanks! *=Clearly, I meant Stage Left. 😉
