  1. Perception and expectation. UV tubes/cannons are subtle effect compared with LED UV which puts out more visible light as mentioned. I recently was lighting a yoof show using ETC Colorsource deep blue fixtures. The director asked for UV for a scene, I explained I couldn't do 'proper' UV, but could simulate it with the fixtures. As soon as I flooded the stage with the deepest blue, she was delighted with the result - the whites and colours flouresd(?) rather well. To me it was quite different to what I'd have expected with a pile of UV cannons as the entire area had a deep blue glow - I quite liked it! A (rather naughty) example is the 'Bra' effect. With blacklight the blouse/top will almost vanish, with LED the bra tends not be as visible. Or maybe blouses/tops are made of better UV blocking material these days and bras less reactive! 😂 Guess who used to mobile DJ with blacklight 'back in the day' 😁

    Lighting PAT

But will the darn thing stay in the light....😶
  3. Any how many of use have various bits of broken or faulty kit lying around that's not repairable, can't get parts, not worth the bother, can't be ar5ed with, might get round to one day but we keep 'just in case' because 'you never know'. "Not guilty your honour." He says, lying through is a55😁
  4. Firstly you'll ideally need to identify the manufacturer of the bar. You could always put a picture of the outlet on here in case someone recognises it if you are struggling. Then the likes of Stage Electrics/WhiteLight etc should be able to source replacements and advise if it's possible to upgrade to 16a from 15a.

    Tap Dance radio mics

Oh yes. Local Xmas lights switch-on, 2 x 12 yr old girls had the packs go down their leggings. (They did the retrieval - could have been awkward otherwise!!). I was just helping as a local PA company were doing the, err.. PA and supplied the mics. The packs didn't even have clips on nor were there pouches available. Mind you, they also struggled to get sound from a couple of mics on stands. Cue complaints to the event organisers from the director, and me saying we'll never rely on others to supply radio mics again in that environment.
  6. Say what?!? As opposed to dead body or a prop...😂??
  7. Seriously? They'll cut off hospitals 😮 I know they should have backup power but surely only for dire emergency? Presume they are not of national importance. Apart of course for any where someone important is having treatment I bet!
  8. Sorry I should have said..... The six full range overheads are passive powered through 3 stereo power amps via a Symetrix DSP. The subs are active and driven direct from the desk, as all outs on the Symetrix are in use. Can't justify the cost of an add-on card to give extra analogue outs from the Symetrix! So it's: Source > desk main outs > Symetrix DSP > 3 x power amps > 6 x cabs Source > desk aux out > active subs
  9. In the context of what I'm wittering about, I mean phase reversal.
  10. This is a bit of a two parter, but related...... Large hall, about 22 wide, 30m long. 6 x loudspeakers in the grid about 18 apart (L to R). First pair about 3m from front wall - which is also the projection screen. Middle pair about 6m from first pair and rear pair about 7m from middle pair. Lecturn sits roughly under the front pair. I've set delays on the middle and rear pairs and it all sounds fine for speech and Powerpoint farts and bangs and the occasional video clip. We don't generally play loud music (such as disco) where it would matter.. However, we are planning a couple of film nights. I'm happy with the sound from the overhead speakers but would like to use a couple of subs which would be against the front wall on the floor. I wondered if there could be any issue with the delays? I'm assuming it will be fine, as sound travels at the same speed so the low frequencies will arrive at the back at the same time as the slightly delayed sound from the rear speakers. (assuming I've set it right!) Which leads me nicely to phasing. The overhead speakers are full range 15", if the subs (also 15") were 180 out of phase then there will surely be some cancellation? I can EQ out the low frequencies from the full range speakers but an out of phase sub would still be undesirable. I assume all drivers are created equal, i.e. the 'top' of the waveform moves them forward (or whichever way it is), however are all preamps/amps equal? Can we assume a positive going source will be a forward movement on the actual driver? I know many mixers have phase reverse on inputs, but assumed that was for different microphone types. I guess one's ears are the ulimate test instument in a real life situation 🙂 Sorry if I'm not making sense....
  11. With conventional halogen lighting there's very little to fail PAT, there's only really damaged/deteriorated cable and lampholder. Someone competent with a screwdriver and electrical wiring (which sounds like you might be) will be able to keep them going almost indefinately and passing PAT. The only thing stopping that is possible lack of replacement lamp holders - or physical damage to the lantern body.
  12. Pair of Pulse PVS12 passive wedge monitors. Good condition but could use a brush down. Spec: https://www.pulse-audio.co.uk/product/pvs12-wedge/ Collection only from Macclesfield, Cheshire. £60 for the pair.
  13. I think it comes down to money in that example. The correct solution would have been to cut a section out and replace with those concrete 'rumble' strips that don't come above the level of the rest of the pavement. But that would have been more expensive. Short-sighted - the cost of the metal strips and subsequent compensation claims and investigations will probably cost more than doing the job properly first time - or not at all!
  14. It sounds like it could be a PC or Pebble-Convex lens, which could be described as having a 'rough' side. Very similar uses to a fresnel lens. https://www.fluxitylighting.com/tutorials/lighting/fresnels-and-pcs In theatre lanterns they tend to be curved side out / flat side in.

    RCDs on my Power Amps

I too agree. Amps maybe low risk in an installation, but thrown about on the road they can develop faults as much as any piece of kit. Imagine internal signal cables coming lose and touching exposed mains parts - pretty unlikely, but shouldn't be ruled out. Thanks for the pdf - it fairly well answers my question about floating / non-floating supplies 👍

    RCDs on my Power Amps

Smaller generators are often 'floating' where there is no reference between their live and neutral terminals and the generator's chassis or true earth. Therefore the rcd doesn't have any reference to measure leakage. A floating output could be considered as both 'live' terminals with a potential difference between them, but not to ground. Useage will determine whether a floating supply or one referenced to ground is best (from a gen as opposed to the grid), I'm not clued-up enough to comment on which is best for what!
  17. I was thinking similar. Or if the dimmer has analog inputs, lash the analog input for said channel to 10v.... pretty easy if the DIN has 10v out. I'm certain analog will take priority over DMX?
  18. I have some (4 I think) wall/rack mount betapack 2's available. 15A outlets on the front. Don't especially want to be posting them though.... PM if interested!

    Audition & Win 10

3 was pretty much a sweet-spot for Audition (post Cool Edit that is). Although I do like some of the tweaks done to later versions. I'm a CC user for Premiere/Photoshop etc so it's just easier (for me..) to use Audition as part of that than dig out V3 and hope it works on Win10/11....
  20. Me too. Although I love to embrace the latest technology and see how I can use it, I wholeheartedly agree! It never ceases to amaze me how you can check, test, rehearse, test, rehease and check again - all works flawlessly. Take a break when litterally nothing changes or is touched, come back and it it doesn't work for the show when you REALLY need it to! Who says true AI doesn't exist? In our world it's a sadistic b*****d!
  21. And I feel like it's a mortal sin asking if a zone can be (correctly) isolated for a specific duration, during which a Fire Marshal shall be in said zone... Some people shouldn't be allowed near screwdrivers!
  22. This is looking like it could be an issue with the laptop, rather than the TV/cable/playback software. The fact you've had two different players crash reinforces the idea it could be the laptop. I'd suggest trying a different laptop...

    Moving Mirrors?

For my money, nodding buckets never replaced waggly mirrors, heads just seem to become the preference with mirrors seeming falling out of favour. You can't beat the speed and accuracy of a decent waggly mirror, for rock'n'roll certainly. I must dig out and fire up my Martin 812's for old times sake 😁 Might even find an excuse to use them 😆 I've been watching some 1990's TOTP and the Goldenscans look b00dy awesome 🥰
  24. Yes I think the peri's teach in the same room each time. Methinks I need to discuss the pitfalls with the Director of Music and strongly suggest the use of a good old cable 🙂
  25. Denon do an almost identical rx/tx set that use 2.4Ghz, which is probably what you've used. Don't think they are bluetooth though - just 2.4Ghz digital, bit like Line6. The unit above is a kind of add on to the range that does bluetooth. I could be wrong... 🤔
