  1. Blue room member theatremeister used to have a contact, I think.
  2. Hadn't seen the update to Windows 10 - where was that?
  3. Yeah, why not. It would cope. Not going to be cutting edge, but you know that, so as long as you're happy with the limitations it imposes. How do you mean they managed to mess up the element? Can't you just reload to last good state?
  4. I've found setting up a reliable TCP/IP connection to carry OSC is a bit of a faff (probably just me) so I tend to use MIDI. Having more options is always good.
  5. All very "new shiny", a lot that I've wondered why they hadn't done it already (like the OLED keys). They're going to be lusted after, I guess.
  6. That's the conclusion we're coming to over our SLD96 rack. It might have some value, but we're not holding our breath.
  7. As I said elsewhere, I'd be nervous enough of doing this that I wouldn't do it, even with lots of ballast. Even if the movers aren't going to intentionally move in the show, I'm still nervous of a heavy mover up high on a tripod overbalancing if someone is focusing and makes them move a bit sharpish. But maybe I'm being too risk averse - you see it every weekend at weddings and parties. Edit to add: There's also the question of can you rig the movers safely to the square cross bar?
  8. Hmm, when our Ion had to go away for an extended period ETC loaned us a replacement. Sorted through Whitelight.
  9. Kind of like you don't need a safety wire, until you do.
  10. Agreed with all the above - I've made (several) batches of patch cables by cutting RJ45 CAT5e patch leads in half and soldering on XLRs and not had a problem with the insulation shrinking back. Some were done with leaded solder, some were lead free, neither caused a shrinking problem.
  11. I see lots of postings on Facebook groups where people say things like I never terminate and I use whatever cable comes to hand from the audio box and in 30 years of using DMX I've never had a problem so stop being a pussy and just get on with the show. I just (virtually) shake my head and ignore them. Others who will tell you that terminators cause problems. It never occurs to them that the terminator could simply be making a problem that they were just about getting away with manifest itself. Saw one guy say that when he added a new fixture in the middle of a run, suddenly the others started flashing and pan/tilt was jittering. I asked if he'd terminated the line - he said, no, but he'd found a terminator, plugged it into the last fixture and the flashing and jittering had stopped. "Do you think that could have been the cause?" he asked.
  12. Absolutely. We managed to fill our (relatively small) theatre with a proper fug that hung for ages in about three or four seconds just with a zr33 at full.
  13. I'd test them in something like the space you'll be using. Be aware that they will possibly set your fire alarm off, so you'll need to (temporarily) disable it.
  14. Another thing to consider - should the smoke lie low or be allowed to rise? To stay low will need a different kind of fogger, usually with a chiller e.g. a glaciator or something similar, possibly using CO2. These are best hired as needed, as they're even more expensive than the options already under consideration. I've seen some good low foggers from Look Solutions, too. Other names to throw in the mix for research might be Swefog and Smoke Factory, but of course I have no idea if these are easily available in Aus.
  15. If you run as administrator, can you then remove the old software? I've seen installers which refuse to install because there's an old version already and you have to manually uninstall, sometimes as administrator.
  16. Henry suck point is from the side of the barrel, so you'd need to mount them poking through the sides, but that could work.
  17. Thinking about it, you don't need to reverse the troupe of Henrys. Imagine you have a box, with holes in the bottom but otherwise sealed, and a load of Henry cleaners in the box but with their hoses poking out through the side or top of the box, with a seal around. Then they would suck air in from outside and pressurise the box, causing the air to escape via the holes in the bottom and generating lift.
  18. Hi, welcome. When you say it pans and tilts, presumably you mean as expected when the desk tells it to? Likewise the beam focus. What desk are you using to try to control it? Does your desk give you a virtual dimmer which you have to bring up before the selected colours show? Do you have the shutter channel set to "open" (DMX value between 32 and 63, 96-127, 160-191 or 224 to 255)?
  19. Could that be a case of it not being a requirement any longer, but it's still a sensible and useful thing to do?
  20. We had one of those dip coaters at my school, too.
  21. I was just reading that article. It's an interesting read, and the idea of Henry powered hover lifters is intriguing.
  22. Even that may not be enough - I have a recollection of reading a story some time back where someone got stopped and asked for his documents, he had them in the glove box, but there was also a multitool in there which he took out while rummaging for the documents, and he got charged for being in possession of an offensive weapon, because it had a blade over 3" which locked. It was quite the cause celebre at the time, ordinary bloke stopped for a traffic check (I think it was a similar number to a car they were looking for) who happened to have one of his work tools not in a locked toolbox.
  23. At this point my friend from th elighting crew would be saying "But it's a helical staircase, not a spiral ..." 😉
