    X32 repairs

We have a problematic X32. Randomly, when you switch it on, as it boots, it comes up with all the lights dim and nothing working. So far, it has always come up ok the second try... PSU perhaps?? Looking at earlier posts, I contacted Electronic Music Services in Southend but never got any reply to emails or phone messages. Any thoughts or any pointers to reliable repairers - or suppliers of PSUs! Thanks Steve

    X32 Problem

Just an update... As we were only a few days away from a show, the decision was made to buy a new one. We'll try repairing the old one then either keep it as a spare or sell it. Thanks for all the advice.

    X32 Problem

We have a 9 year old X32 at our amateur-run theatre. It is only used by a couple of people and not heavily used. So far, it has been rock solid but over the last three days, getting things ready for the next show, every time I have started it up, it comes up with all the lights/buttons, etc only dimly lit and many of the displays not lit. So far, power off/power on has fixed it each time but it's obviously a little worrying. I'm pretty sure some of the channel strips have also randomly changed colour a couple of times. Anyone ever come across this?? Thanks
  5. If you want to stick with the laptop, look at SCS - https://www.showcuesystems.com The lowest version would probably do what you want and it is easy to use and foolproof. Stand alone players aren't something I know about but I'm sure others will be along with suggestions.
  6. We have an Ion which, while currently working, is behaving a little strangely. We'd like it serviced and the firmware updated. Neither Stage Electric (our nearest agent) nor ETC will even consider booking it in over the next three months and even then suggest they would want it for a month at least! Any suggestions? (Can't say we are impressed with this level of customer service!) Thanks
  7. Brilliant idea - thanks!
  8. Yes. ... but a) was trying for an easy life and b) don't know anyone who plays video games
  9. I'm after 30 - 40 secs of someone playing a video game. Even my usual sources like Soundogs are letting me down. There's an endless supply of FX to use IN a game but I can't find just someone playing it. It may be that I'm just searching wrong! Any pointers? Thanks
  10. I always prepare stuff in Goldwave (similar to Audacity) and I just get them to a 'reasonable' level. I use SCS rather than QLab but that's where I set the levels I want - not in the sound files themselves. S

    'Remote' Sound mixing

Thanks for the suggestions. All will be considered.S

    'Remote' Sound mixing

I have always found that getting the overall level right is very difficult, especially for a musical or similar where nearly everything is miked up. If there is some unmiked stuff then you can use that as a guide to how loud the PA is. In our case, the band is never miked so that makes things a bit easier.

    'Remote' Sound mixing

I'd agree that the airflow is the problem. The increased risk is because of the airflow over the audience coming into the sound room. There have been spreading problems due to airflows like this - see My linkhttps://www.erinbromage.com/post/the-risks-know-them-avoid-them Ideally you'd need some positive pressure in the sound room to keep the flow the other way. Fans from the outside, etc are all possible but, to be honest, much more complex in our situation than the window approach.(... and before anyone suggests it, I've tried farting a lot but keeping it up for three hours is pushing it, even for me )

    'Remote' Sound mixing

Fair point but bear in mind most volunteer techs are in the more vulnerable age group and less willing to take risks! There is no danger to the punters from the sound op (I.e me) but there's no realistic way to stop the airflow from the auditorium through the window and being over 70 and with chronic heart disease, there's no way I'm willing to take the risk!! It's a real problem in amateur/volunteer theatre. 3 of our 4 lighting people are over 60, both the sound people and 90% of the stage crew! S
