  2. I should have thought of this. Being able to follow a score is so, so, so useful. You don’t need to be able to follow the full orchestral score for the Ring Cycle, but finding your way around a piano score is a very valuable skill. You don’t need to know what every marking or piece of terminology means, just be able to find bar 67 when the MD says that’s where you’ll pick up from, and follow instrumental sections during a dance break. I wish I was better at this for doing Opera. I can just about follow along, but if I get distracted and need to find where we are...yikes.

    Multi zone audio

You want a small matrix mixer, essentially. There's lots to choose from, here's a Behringer one that will likely do the trick: https://www.behringer.com/Categories/Behringer/Mixers/Rackmount/ZMX2600/p/P0B3P#googtrans(en|en) 2 ins, 6 outs. 90 Euros
  4. Unfortunately, neither Las Vegas or Mitcham are easy to ship to from Western Canada, where I was! ;) Back and forth for repairs over the USA/Canada border is a massive pain in the ass, as discovered by many US companies who decide they don't need a Canadian distributor...
  5. To be fair, after sinking FAR too much money into a couple of these, I gave up on them too. I was getting the "slow flash error" regardless of which parts I replaced...
  6. Weird, doesn't show up for me until many layers deep. Must be Google's location-based stuff at work, I guess.
  7. 119 is about the blue "equivalent" of the 139 you used for green. It's about half the transmission value, though. 197 is closer to 10% transmission but may not be deep blue enough. Not sure how long it will last. Gel on LED fixtures ages weirdly. They do make a range that is designed for LEDs but don't have a deep blue available in that.
  8. I've never heard of it, and neither has Google, as far as I can tell. Got a photo?

    Coronavirus

We had to cancel our event today, as Quebec have banned any event with >250 people. We are trying to see if we can pay our crew anyway. USITT also cancelled their conference and tradeshow today, which is huge.

    Coronavirus

Here in Canada, we are currently still planning on running our Tradeshow in Montreal the week after next. It's a tricky one - but in the end we have not been advised to cancel by the authorities or venue, and our audience is primarily domestic, and Montreal isn't really affected yet. Still watching closely for what's going to happen, though.
  12. https://interactive-online.com/products/scenestation are pretty good. Not sure about UK availability, though. Or https://www.pathwayconnect.com/index.php/products/DMX-show-controllers-and-consoles/177-vignette is also a bit more full-featured. Never tried to do a chase on either, mind....
  13. Several years ago, the manager of the local Cash Converters called me to say he had our lighting console. It had been stolen about 20 minutes previously, unknown to us!
  14. There are all kinds of nice options. I don't really do much at the super-low end so have no sensible suggestions there. Buyer beware down at that end of the market, I guess... At the lower but not junky end, the Chauvet Ovation fresnels are quite nice: https://www.chauvetprofessional.com/products/category/fresnels/ Quite a few choices available there, too. Midrange, you have the ETC Colorsource spot with the Fresnel adaptor. https://www.etcconnect.com/Products/Lighting-Fixtures/ColorSource-Spot/Features.aspx?utm_campaign=ColorSource Nicer than that, you can put the same adaptor on a Lustr body. https://www.etcconnect.com/Products/Lighting-Fixtures/Source-Four-LED-Adapters/Adapters.aspx?utm_campaign=Source-Four-LEDS If you're feeling flush and only need white, the Juliat Zeps are verrrry nice: https://www.robertjuliat.com/singlelenslum/ZEP_340_360.html Or if you're insane, then the Arri L7-C is pretty great, if a stupid amount of money: https://www.arri.com/en/lighting/led/l-series/l7-c (Nicely featured in the new Rob Delaney special on Amazon Prime, btw.) I wouldn't feel bad about any of those options but will note that the quality does indeed increase pretty linearly as you move up in cost. What's your budget look like? And; Don't forget that your poor old dimmers are no good for these guys, so you'll need to update the boring and unsexy end of things too. And add DMX distribution if you don't already have it / enough.
  15. I think the answer is probably that they don't. Or rather, the H&S person will be in-house and will understand the hazards and risks. Same as in the UK. H&S is mostly self-managed, it's very rare that anyone 'official' ever turns up to check things. True, but should you have an issue, how do you ensure that you've covered yourself for when the "official" does show up? "We all knew it was fine" isn't going to help much once something unfortunate happens. (I'm really just trying to extract some useful info from this thread...)
  16. I think people are misrepresenting Paul's questions here. I don't think he's claiming that the performer is reckless or doesn't know what they're doing - the question is, how do they get this cleared past the authorities? Generally "because I'm super awesome" isn't generally considered a reasonable control method, even if it is true. I mean, how does a H&S officer measure that? This isn't just about the specific trick, it's about all circus-type performances. No-one here is suggesting that they shouldn't happen. They're curious about how you phrase that to the H&S people in a way that works for them.
  17. That would be a hell of a laser to supply enough power for PoE. ;) Just get the second network switch with PoE (if that's possible) or use an injector as suggested. I don't love injectors as they're janky bits of kit usually, but if you need it, then....
  18. That seems mostly unremarkable for a hemp house with experienced operators. They might grumble a bit but it'll work. They may even throw a sandbag or two on for some old-school counterweight assist. Now, if it's a community run or otherwise non-pro venue running hemp, that may be a different animal.
  19. Yikes. Yes, it probably was that long ago. Oh my.
  20. I always liked black embroidery on black. The embroidery was just shiny enough to be distinguishable. Nothing on the back. I had a Meyer/Led Zeppelin shirt which I loved the front of. Very subtle Zeppelin logo on a big expanse of black...but the back was a mess of Meyer Leo stuff so totally useless as blacks. I still sometimes use it as pyjamas. I stopped wearing blacks on purpose when I started taking on Technical Director work. You need to be distinguishable from the crew, and it made client interaction a lot easier. I own virtually no blacks of any kind kind any more.
  21. You should all be following me, surely? ;) In all seriousness, good follows on Twitter are; Jimonlight (I don't always agree with Jim, but he states his opinions with conviction.) Wonder Works (That's Piers Sheppard's company. The twitter feed is good for general industry stuff, though.) The ABTT CITT (Ok, maybe of less interest to most of you, but, we try!) The various "Anonymous" accounts (TD, SM, LD. Most have good snark value.)
  22. They're almost as much as the Meyers, tbh. The Anakonda speakers are B A N A N A S.
  23. Interesting. I’ll check them out. The main system is likely JBL, Community or Fulcrum, so the Meyers and the L’Acoustics are a bit out-of-scale, budget wise.
  24. So, I'm looking a project that needs some tiny front fill speakers for the first couple of rows. Our usual go-to are Meyer MM-4XPs or L'Acoustics 5XTs, but does anyone here have any other similarly tiny but good speakers to recommend trying out? We've also tried the Adamson PC5s but they're starting to get too big for the application. Thoughts?
  25. True, but kit is frequently cheaper than building a dedicated room to put the spots in. So, depends where in the process you are...
