  1. I think TOA make something that does what you want...but it's a ton of money. The PFL is the hard part, otherwise the Denon DN410X would do the job nicely.

    QL5 vs Avantis

I really like both at the price point and would suggest you would be happy with either. If I were writing a spec I'd probably write it in such a way that both were possible and wait and see who can price it the keenest. But if you're not going the RFP route then that won't work. I think I'd say the edge is slightly for the Avantis, as it's a newer product. (96kHz and so on.) But it's marginal.
  3. Also, please put in the work to label each cue well if you're building it for someone else to run. There's nothing like pressing go on a track having no indication of what the cue actually is or does.
  4. 1: Should be, but someone will likely need to take a look at it to be sure. 2: I wouldn't. Retractable is good for keeping screens away from errant screen damage. 3: Theres a complicated calculation in the DISCAS spec, which give *almost* exactly the same answers at any sensible screen size as the old 4/6/8 rule, so I will ignore the complicated stuff and use 4/6/8 instead. (https://www.avixa.org/standards/discas-calculators/discas if you feel like getting into the fun stuff!) Screen height is 2.5m, most distant viewer is at 13m. That's 5.2 times the screen height which puts it squarely between the analytical and basic decision making. Seems fine to me. 4: Using the ET-ELT22 Lens, that gets you +200nits on the screen with a 8k Lumen projector. That'll do nicely. https://www.projectorcentral.com/Panasonic-PT-MZ770WU-projection-calculator-pro.htm 5: Those Panasonics are nice projectors, and if it saves you buying a lens, then that's great. 6: But wait, the new screen is wider, so that probably means the same lens won't do the job from the same distance, unless it's inside the zoom range, maybe? What lens do you have? Playing with the calculator, the 5k should still be OK. Maybe all you really need is a new lamp? EDIT: Expected lamp life is 4000 hours, so, probably not. Must be excessive ambient light from the windows that's the issue.
  5. It's not ADC or H&H either. At a guess T70 runners might work OK, but it looks like the proper ones have the curve for the belly of the pipe track, rather than being flat.
  6. It's a similar style to Halls T70, but the tracks are round tube rather than square. Interesting!
  7. I've heard of at least one venue where a total transition to an LED rig caused an increase in heating costs which over the payback period of the new rig was greater than the cost of replacing the rig?!?!? In the short term, that was the case at my old building. Less so the day-to-day heating costs, but the upsizing of the boiler required.
  8. The FLX-S24 looks like the right answer, but I'll throw in some Wildcard suggestions for the sake of completeness: Have you looked at the LightShark LS-1? https://www.workpro.es/lightshark. Not fader per fixture, but interesting conceptually. Or Altman Genesis / LSC Mantra Lite. (Same console, just rebadged.). https://www.lsccontrol.com.au/product/19/mantra-lite/
  9. I spend a lot of time trying to argue that the access equipment needs to be considered with the rest of the theatre equipment like lights and speakers and budgeted and specified by the theatre consultant. It's an argument I often lose... "We'll buy one of those later" but, of course, by then the money has run out. Sigh.
  10. I'm not familiar with the current Euro standards (I'm in North America.). Is EN17206 the same or similar to what they used to call VGB70? (Or BGV C1.). Or something else?

    G@5 VS GIO

This is funny - a long-standing disagreement between me and someone I work with. He loves to put the @5 on projects all the time where I prefer the full-fat Gio. You can usually tell who wrote the budget by which console is in the placeholder position.
  12. What I've been doing recently is all Relays/Motorized breakers and then providing portable single-channel dimmers for the odd time a fixture just HAS to be tungsten. The ETC ES750 is a good choice: https://www.etcconnect.com/Products/Power-Controls/Distributed/Distributed-Dimming/ES750.aspx (I'm assuming there's a 240v variant although I admit I haven't checked.) I needed one capable of doing 2K fresnels recently which was a bit of a challenge. I found one in the end but it's not as quiet as I would like. While writing this I suddenly remembered CCT Freedom dimmers. An idea just a touch too early for its time!
  13. Agreed. Generally we specify 1694a as the "default choice" for SDI, unless we have reason to think we need something else. Although, TBH, we don't spec a lot of SDI-based systems anymore. Cat6 is dirt cheap, and unterminated fibre for future proofing.
  14. Hey all, Just saw that the UK Government is pegging 21st June as the lifting of restrictions. I assume that means that theatres and events can reopen. Do we think a big summer season is in store, or will most places wait until September to be safe? (Ie: hedging against the schedule slipping.).
  15. A hard G in Zarges? I never knew.
  16. I move that we start calling that thing a Shortescope. ;)
  17. I ran through it, although I had to give "placeholder" answers for the building specific stuff - we don't all work in just one building! I'm actually probably your exact target audience here - I design new theatres and renovations to older ones. It's an interesting idea, I would just be concerned about a: Cost and b: versatility for other applications other than safety enhancement. Until they're required by code, this is going to be a hard sell unless you have other applications clearly identified. Moderation: (With my Admin hat on, I deleted the other two topics you started, one is fine, thanks.)
  18. Secondhand DMP64s show up on eBay a fair bit, very cheap. Brand new they're not a million miles off the QSC Nano, though. (Boy, do Extron need an Industrial Designer, Stat... ;) )
  19. I like the QSC too and specify it frequently, (there's a 110f in my office right now routing my computer audio!) but there are other manufacturers (Biamp, Symetrix, maybe even Rane) who make similar products that are a bit cheaper - but finding an experienced / qualified programmer will be more challenging. The QSC software isn't super hard to use, especially if your use case is reasonably simple. And they have much smaller, more cost effective boxes now than were available last year (look up the Core Nano and Core 8 Flex). I still think that's your best bet.
  20. I'm on the right continent, but up in the frozen North. I actually designed a job in the Cayman Islands last year but sadly, there was no site visit....just a lot of drawings. https://www.usedlighting.com is ok. Or https://gearsource.com Or, given that you're in the Caribbean, I assume Florida is your nearest state, (Or maybe Texas?). You might have more luck approaching a local supplier to wherever it is that's convenient for you to access and see if their network of contacts is trying to shift older gear. Given the current state of the live ents industry, I imagine they might be somewhat motivated to shift older inventory that's sitting around doing nothing. Fixture wise, I'd be looking for some RGB LED pars or dedicated uplighter units. Maybe some of the smaller moving heads like Chauvet Rogues, maybe. I see Mac 101s are dirt cheap these days. They're old but they pump out light and move, so probably will do the job. Control it all from a small Chamsys console, or maybe a Hog or ETC EOS PC wing. MA stuff is favoured but holds value very well so not many bargains to be had secondhand.
  21. It's like Oprah. "YOU get a laser. And YOU get a laser. Everybody gets a laser!" Glad to hear you guys are getting up and running again. With shiny new toys!
  22. That seems weird. I could see if they wanted EU Passport holders, but that seems to include everyone except the UK and I can't see why the UK would be any different. Maybe the ad is badly written? Is it because everyone hates the UK in Europe now? ;)
  23. Good find. I stand corrected!
  24. It's not a 102, note the rectangular feature is at the top and bottom of the lantern. I might send this to a friend who worked for Strand North America from the 1960s to the 1990s..he may have an idea.
