We had a PTZ camera at work and (maybe this is standard) it would freeze the image when a new shot was requested, rapidly change and then release the freeze. It worked really well so long as you didn’t ask it to pan across a large room. it was for video relay/ overspill so was acceptable.

This is a bit above my knowledge But at about 30 mins in the sax player explains how he uses software to control cameras and MIDI to action camera changes through Qlab. It isn't clear to me if he's figured pan/tilt yet? he seems to have a solution for cropping 4k and producing 'angles" from two cameras

They went bust I think? We had banqueting stands that ran either upright or at 45 degrees. We would use them with Calrecs or AKGs on goosenecks I managed to walk away with a few stands after they shut. A mate's band uses Valtoc(?) stands which are heavy based and adjust without needing two hands

First off - a camera "on standby" will likely turn itself off. Check it works or stick in a very big SD card. I imagine this is for video relay (silent) and live sound? If not -an HDMI camera carries the sound with video so sync should be fine. The ATEM does have an audio delay within it's software settings, or send better mics to an audio mixer.ATEM inputs. Easiest is to use an audio injector to the camera feeds.

a venue that I worked in had "hot shoe" style brackets on external fire doors. The door had to be unlocked, then the right angled brackets that had held the padlocks were removed by sliding then out. The bracket/padlock combo then had it's own hook in the stage door office. You could spot at a glance any door not secured. Fire doors in other music venues have had Hall effect sensors connected to a bloody great floodlight. Pop open a fire escape and you were lit up like a WW2 POW camp escapee.

Presumably it was the ballon material that caught fire, helium being inert? Looks like some kind of real/fake foliage as well.

Another option is to make a dowser for the projector. basically a flag that obscures the lens, so any picture wobble/flicker is hidden. one way is to use an old cd drive from a pc with card where the cd lives. iPhones vary the shutter speed instead of varying the iris- basically they don’t have one. so using a phone to check is a waste of time

Pretty sure that the original cyclone can be set to auto play on start up, but it’s in a menu. also, some cyclones seem less reliable on remembering functions.

The original Cyclone that the sprite seems to be based on does have a setting to play when power is restored. I have loads of them and suspect that several factories make them, as some seem to work well with remembering settings while others don’t. The newer ones have a far better remote which works with earlier units and they all operate using the same remotes.

that's "just" a standard Cyclone 2+ with some added stuff. a standard player is £30 on amazon. I guess the Sprite is worth it if you can't figure how they do it? I suppose they may have added some electronics to the standard player?

not USB recording but.. The Zoom L8 uses an SD card, records iso and mix. It also has a USB out to computer - might record store a stick? It also has a phone input which may be of use? What is your capture device? I haven’t done vhs to dvd in years but a decent A>D is important. if you can lay your hands on a vhs/ dvd combo it’s easy

all a phantom power unit does is provide a voltage to power a microphone. I wouldn't be surprised if your mic has a battery in it. What you need is a booster that will bump the microphone up to line level. I'd send the phantom power back and buy a cheap mixer like a behringer. Ideally one that has phantom (though not sure you need it) and outputs either on Jack /XLR according to whatever the sound to light needs (just for fewer leads) That way you'll have a bit of kit with a secondary use.

It can work but be a pain. I did it years ago so hard to remember but it relied on umpteen hoses back to the machine and rapid switching back and forth to avoid too much coming out of the shortest pipe. would a low fogger that uses ice be better

I believe that the US safety rules (maybe uk?) for FILMING - not a gun range etc... say that the armourer /AD hands over the weapon saying "Hot" or "Cold" but that the rules basically prevent the actor from challenging/checking? ie the actor is breaking the chain of custody if they open or check the weapon? A sensible route would be to approach the talent with the weapon unloaded and physically demonstrate Hot/Cold as part of the handover. When I shot riles (unbelievable we had a range at school) we would be handed a weapon with the bolt open, and return it the same way. If handing it over we'd do the same If the Film rules prevent this, due to custody rules, having the talent stand on the shoulder of the armourer to demonstrate an empty chamber would go a long way. But basically it sounds like terrible practice by several people.

I’ve used a toa amp chime as well. From memory, the chime was a different button to mic on. I have also used a continuous tone routed through a normally off hand switch. Just a 35mm film can (shows how long ago) with a button fitted in the bottom and the lead out of the (official) top.

Have you tried the 1M cable with adaptors next to the projector? The device may put out a version of hdmi that the projector doesn’t like? It’s possible that the devices can’t cope with such a long run, or it could be the cable choice, or construction. I’d ensure it works on short runs then increasingly long known good tables

Looks like a good buy I have several sets as I work on old British bikes and the Halfords “pro” is bloody good. If the cheap one has a “lifetime guarantee” put the receipt somewhere safe! I might buy one for work myself

what about Birdies with GU10 dimmable LEDs? I am aware that not all "dimmable" LEDs work with all dimmers we used Tungsten Birdies in a venue I worked in, hanging from above to provide a very nice pooled lighting around the seating and walkways

re the cyclone 's - I wasn't aware that the buildings were separate. I was envisioning a cabled single building fed by a single player. (ie all the same content) even so, each building could have a single player (better two strapped together for redundancy) Looks like you need an internet based solution
