  1. We've been here before. He moved on most of the desks to NEET who couldn't find a permanent display space, despite years of trying, and now most of them are (?) in storage at White Light.

  3. This is, of course, the same Jim Laws who downsized his collection about 10 years ago.
  4. What you've pictured isn't LED. It's a set of mains GU10 holders. (no lamps supplied) So you could fit halogen GU10s lamps in there and not worry.

  6. It'd be a brave person who wrote that on a Risk Assessment!!!!
  7. Do you still live in the shadow of Mr Booth's castle? If so, I'm afraid that makes you the Urbanite!!!! Me, I'm just a web-toed fen dweller. 🙃
  8. I think that recent events have shown that, for the first hour or more, venues could on their own in the event of an incident. What's the response time going to be to a major incident in a rural town?
  9. I've approved this although technically it skirts around the "under £500" rule for free ads. Perhaps if Dan does well he'll make a donation!!!!!
  10. Except, ironically, a multi-tool as they don't have enough mass to work as an effective hammer.
  11. Multi-tools? What are they? Oh yes, they're those things, usually over-priced, that are always the wrong tool for the wrong job. They're the thing with a wire stripper that leaves you with a mangled mess; a crosshead screwdriver that messes up your screw's head because it's Philips and all decent kit uses Posi; it the tiny flathead screwdriver that you can't actually use because the rest of the tool's body is too big to get into the confined space; it's the saw that, well, when was the last time you needed a saw with a 3" long cutting edge?
  12. Whilst stories of what happened 10+ years ago are interesting (I lie) they're not really relevant to the situation today are they?
  13. Probably the most important question to ask you... Who is going to control the lighting?
  14. Time to open one up. On many fixtures the dmx transceiver is in a socket for just this reason.
  15. Unless told to, either manually or by DMX, most discharge units won't automatically turn the lamp on. There *might* be an option in the menu for automatic turn on when the power is connected.
  16. Have you manually struck the lamps in the menu before running the test programs?
  17. It's huge and swallows up everything you put in it. Which isn't always a good thing as I found out when I first packed it. Too many 'oh, that might be useful' moments. Boy, was it heavy!

    Loud pop on power off

Normal? Not sure it's normal. Common? Definitely. A properly designed system, using properly designed equipment, does not require a power sequencer.

    Loud pop on power off

One cause of this is poorly designed equipment where they've not properly dealt with residual charge on any DC blocking capacitors. Q1) if the connection between the XR18 and the amp is removed I assume the pop goes away? Q2) do you have a DI box to hand to interpose?

  21. I've just taken delivery of one of these. Loads of pockets, and I'm sure there are some I haven't found yet. I've got a load of commuting coming up next week so I'll be able to give it a proper road (to be correct, tube) test.
  22. Whilst I'm sure there is a place for budget systems on shows where it doesn't matter if you lose comms to the stage manager, there are plenty, probably the majority, of shows where it really does matter. I've just come off a huge corporate event where there was about 50 people on comms. On the rehearsal day I had a headset on for over 12 hours. Try doing that on a phone based app.
  23. And even white smokes. I've had to clean down the railings around the Guards Memorial before now when they went from crisp shiny black to blotchy grey.
