    Speaker Covers

Any recommendations for decent speaker covers. Looks like Hot Covers & Bacsew are the 2 main contenders. Any experiences/comments on either? Thanks.
  2. Maybe look at swimming pool and pond suppliers. Probably not battery powered, but likely to be 12v dc.
  3. If I was doing that, I would "field strip" the guns when not being used. It only takes a few seconds for a competent person to re-assemble them when needed. You would then be totally sure there was nothing "accidently" left in the barrel or magazine. Additionally, blank and live rounds look totally different to live ones. Capped Blanks ( the plastic plug splits on firing, but stays within the case) Crimped blank. Crimp opens up on firing. Live round. Has a bullet in the case. They are sufficiently different that you can (with a little practice) tell the difference by touch alone. Any competent armourer should thoroughly inspect the gun before handing it over. Even if the gun was used 5 minutes ago and was OK then. This also highlights a fundamental issue with using "live" guns as oposed to ones that have been professionally modified (or built) to load and fire blank rounds only.
  4. Robe UK is the old Coemar UK operation, so there might be some continuity with the service team there.
  5. I have put filter gel over exit signs once to reduce brightness for a particular show. Still visible, but a lot dimmer than usual.
  6. How about an adjustable height workbench. Should be solid and easy to adjust. https://www.furniture-work.co.uk/premium-height-adjustable-workbench.html
  7. Have a look at the studio furniture offered by Thomann. A small producer desk and a studio rack fitted with drawers would make a good and robust set up. https://www.thomann.de/gb/studio_furniture.html?ls=25&pg=1
  8. I have always liked the movement speed you get from waggly mirrors. Those Robe SIlverstars do look very impressive.
  9. I look forward to hearing your experience of it. I have used mine for 48hr business trips, airline carry on as well as carting around laptops and electronics for various jobs.
  10. I use the Wenger Synergy. Brilliant well thought out pack. https://www.ebuyer.com/125806-wenger-swissgear-synergy-back-pack-15-4-ga-7305-14f00
  11. A slow speed fan might be more successful.
  12. I find ordinary spiral wrap awful stuff to use, especially on longer lengths. The similar but infinitely better solution by Hellerman is infinitely better. It uses a tool to "zip" along the cables guaranteeing a neat and tidy job. It is available in several diameters. https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/cable-spiral-wrapping/6478780
  13. "Use in connection with work" is a valid legal reason to carry a multio tool. Obviously you need to be carrying only while you are at work (or travelling to and from work). I did once get stopped at 3 AM in Brixton and my upon being asked "if I was carrying anything?" I Said I had a multitool on my belt and was returning home after a gig. The mini maglite next to it on the belt probably helped convince the police I was legit and I was let on my way with a "thank you". At the end of the day, its "good reason" and "context". As mentioned above, I rarely need a blade at work. A pair of decent side cutters and a corkscrew are far more useful and live in the tool box.
  14. LMR400 is acceptable at that frequency, but isnt very user friendly. It is semi rigid and doesnt like bend radius of less than 50cm. It also needs special N type connectors and tooling to fit them. I would keep the RF run to about 5m to the receiver (ie move the receiver) and have a long balanced cable to the desk. Anything else is asking for problems.
  15. More of a flood than a dedicatred uplighter, but hits the low end budget requirement. My trial one has just arroived and it seems pretty good. Havent got round to measuring battery life yet. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32843614643.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.61f94c4dHmoK8D
  16. Usually laser injuries to eyes cause vision "black spots". A friend (and laser operator) accidently irradiated his eye with a class 4 laser. Following a repair, the tube was put in backwards. He had symptoms of small spots of no vision. They were thankfully small and the rest of his vision was fine, but to this day, they are still there. If you have and areas of vision where you cant see anything (imagine putting a small dot (3-5mm) of a marker pen on a pair of glasses) then that it what a minor laser injury would look like. As mentioned, sore eyes sound more like an arc eye type injury from exposure to bright lighting and will hopefully clear itself after a few days. You mentioned your camera is undamaged. That is good as they can suffer similar symptoms where individual pixels on the CCD get burnt. If you still have issues, contact the Environmental Health Department at the local council where the event was held. To legally perform a laser show, you are required to submit detailed paperwork including risk assessments and calculations to prove what you are doing is safe. A 10 watt laser is quite high for crowd scanning without a lot of precautions to minimise the risk. If you advise the EHA you were possibly injured and want to see the laser show application they should help you. If they dont have the required paperwork, then someone will likely be getting an unpleasant visit. Hope things work out OK for you. Feel free to message me if you want any additional help.

    ECS Cards

I am going for the "Field Engineer" card, as it seems to cover a multitude of disciplines and is technically correct for most eventualities.

    ECS Cards

Sounds like a right load of guff. I wonder what would happen if everyone in the industry refused to be "blackmailed" into paying for a useless card. I guess I could always "argue" they dont do one for laser technicians. :)
  19. Thanks, will give Absolute a phone and see if they can get a pair in to listen to.
  20. DMX512 isnt really designed for laser use. Usually its just manipiulating a pre installed library of patterns as opposed to creating your own effects. I would save up and go for Pangolin. Its a worldwide recognised product. There is immense support both from the laser community as well as Pangolin themselves. There are a number of product safety devices that are all compatible with the software and approved for public show use.
  21. I am hoping that in a few weeks time I will be in a position to buy some new speakers. Does anyone know where I might be able to demo a pair of RCF NX10-A and TT10-A and hopefully purchase at a decent price? Ideally not a million miles from Southampton would be good, but happy to travel a reasonable distance if required.
  22. How about the Tascam MZ232. https://www.thomann.de/gb/tascam_mz_223.htm
  23. People generally dont look at the floor in an emergency. They look forward looking for an obvious exit. A large wall mounted sign would be more obvious, easier to install and somewhat cheaper.
  24. They appear quite expensive compared to KinxSound https://kinxsound.com/
