chris
Hello Need to find many many monopoly houses and hotels. About 1000 green houses and 450 red houses, they get mangled during a show. My other option would be to find one set of houses and hotels made from metal(much easier I hear you shout until you discover they havent made them for some time) Anybody got any scooby where I might pick these up? I have googled till my eyes go googly, tried e-bay and going direct to the UK suppliers. Any thoughts, leads, comments or someone with said props would all be appreciated. Cheers Chris
mac.calder
What about casting them out of either latex or plaster?
the kid
Do the people who make monopoly do spare pieces? Im sure if you rang Hasbro they could sell/give you some.
chris
Have tried e-mailing/phoning Hasbro on countless occasions. They are not what could be described as the sharpest spatula's in the spoon drawer.
Brian
You can orders spares online on the Hasbro website.
chris
They are helping out by sending some free packets. But they dont think they can supply the quantity (which I was a bit surprised at myself). The online order form doesnt work for the UK only US and Canada. mac.calder
Complain to opera ;-p she is with Hasbro isnt she... Anyway: Try looking at opshops - I know my local op shop used to have about 50 monopoly sets for a 30c each. Some were the really old (with metal houses) sets. Dweeks
I'm sorry, I've got to ask, what on earth is this for?? I agree with the other poeple, try using basic blow-moulding to make them, cheaper and they don't have to be detailed (I presume?) Are they supposed to look like Monopoly houses? chris
They get destroyed/mangled during each performance, its a bit of a crazy show. I may be able to save some from each show and start to make new sets from old if you see what I mean. I 'll see how I tick along. There are many other odditys to ponder on this show. Ive just realised I dont need quite as many as I thought, I still need a relatively large number tho har har Yes they are used on the monopoly board. Yes have tried all the charity shops/junk shops etc. It seems that charity shops are turning into actual shops these days a lot less junky than they used to be eh? What would be the best way to cast them?
Jivemaster
www.tiranti.co.uk specialise in the supply of casting equipment for small sculptures. both resin and hot metal. They have a shop in London and a warehouse elsewhere. Make a Vinamould impression of a set of houses/hotels and mould them in red and green resins using a syringe to put the resin in each. mac.calder
what is an op Shop? is it a second hand shop? Opportunity Shop - usually run by churches and charities (The major ones in AU are run by the Salvation Army and St Vincent De Pauls) - people donate old things and the op shop sells them at jack all cost. My mum loves them, her entire wardrobe is from op shops, she pays something like $4 for an as new blouse or something ridiculous like that. When I am SMing shows with no costume designers we usually take op shop tours (me, the actors and the director) as there are three really big 'super store' type (large warehouse) opshops within about 3km, and we can fit out the entire cast for less than $50 usually. bruce
Need to find many many monopoly houses and hotels. Do they need to be house-shaped? or would an appropriately-coloured "brick" shape be adequate? Do you really need the pointy roof? If not, get a length of 10mm x 10mm square moulding. It'll cost about 2 quid for a 2m length at B&Q, or a fraction of that at a proper joinery shop - they'll probably call it an offcut, or scrap.... Cut it into sections about 15mm long, and paint green. Do the same, on a slightly larger scale, in red for the hotels. In fact, you could get a joinery workshop to run off a long moulding with a pointed edge - it'd just take a couple of passes with a router and a 45degree cutter, and then you'd get proper house shapes. No chimneys though... Opportunity Shop - usually run by churches and charities Generally called "charity shops" in the UK. As Chris says, a lot of them are now high-street chains, and are very fussy about what sort of stuff they accept. But there are still some "old-style" ones around - often run by churches. Bruce. david.elsbury
Do they need to be house-shaped? or would an appropriately-coloured "brick" shape be adequate? Do you really need the pointy roof?Especially if you mix in these "bricks" with real monopoly houses. Get all you can of the real thing, and make it up with the rest. But, the audience probably won't be looking for realistic detail anyway. Suspension of disbelief and all that....
