paulears
My supplier just delivered a batch of 90W LED movers, and in the two months since the last order, the gobos are completely different, and the colour wheels have different colours in them. Today, a little bag arrived with new gobos, and new glass for the colour wheel. The wheels with the wrong colours in have the glass glued in with white colour cement of some kind. Any idea what I should get to attach the new, correct colours - and any tips?
alistermorton
RTV silicone? There's not as much heat as in discharge or incandescent lamps and I'm sure I've seen RTV recommended before. EDIT: typo
Jivemaster
Heat resistant silicone was the norm for disco lights before LEDs so should work on (cooler) LED fittings.
paulears
Excellent - any convenient local sources, or is it an internet job? I just checked and the silicone I have is not high temp.
Oovis
We use this from Farnell, if it's any use to you [sPAG]
Dave m
I use the clear silicone instant gasket on my motorbike exhaust and it seems to seal,OK. Not sure about gluing , but a trial with a hot air gun would tell you.Exhausts get quite hot.- enough to melt poly bags and shoes.
bruce
So for local sources, try an autoshop or motor factors.
paulears
Thanks for the link Oovis - £27 seems a bit steep, though. I'll try the car and bike places first. Do you reckon this stuff will do the trick?amazon link
musht
For preference want a neutral curing silicone, normal silicones are acetic acid curing, smells of vinegarm can eat coatings off glass Big tubehttp://www.amazon.co.uk/Everbuild-Builders-Silicone-Trans-300ml/dp/B00JVFNA5C Little tubehttp://www.amazon.co.uk/SERVISOL-CORROSIVE-SILICONE-ADHESIVE-SEALANT/dp/B008PD4KH8
Stuart91
I use the clear silicone instant gasket on my motorbike exhaust and it seems to seal,OK. I used some instant gasket to hold the DWE bulbs in place in some molefay-style blinders. I was hopeful the bodge would get me through a gig, but they've held perfectly for years since.
