2D & 3D Projection mapping demonstration

I am setting up a demonstration of 2D & 3D projection mapping as part of a showcase day we are running for our existing and potential clients.

It is being held in a medium size hotel venue but with no technical infrastructure. We are providing what we will need but do not want to go overboard!

the session needs to be set up and struck quickly! So the "Set" needs to be very lightweight and easily built/dismantled we already have suitable interesting 2D surfaces sorted.

However we are still working on the 3D element, we have large cardboard tubes that will be painted but wanted square structures as well, we had thought of very large white cardboard boxes but are struggling with sourcing as we only want a few!

So any thoughts other interesting ideas and or potential sources would be gratefully received.

Mods: I posted here as it is projection related but if you feel it should be elsewhere I am sure you will move it

Couldn't you make large cardboard boxes out of precaution hardboard? A few hinges and tape and they will fold, even use gaffer as hinges.Places like lock and store sell reasonable sized boxes.

Good thought! I Presume you mean "Pre Coated Hardboard" We had thought white cardboard boxes to keep the prep time down but that way we could probably do a pyramid shape as well thanks.

Edited: to add Lock and store boxes are self branded unfortunately!

Correx aka coroplast aka plastic cardboard, local sign and plastic stockholders, sign stuff is plasma treated for printing and has a light matt finish that takes projection really well.

polypropylene , infinitately recyclable, makes an unbreakable hinge because it doesn`t work harden

plastkut knife, site has some good ideas

Make it interesting, get a large toy car and map onto that! :)

We considered that but we are trying to sell the concept to people who currently believe that video only comes on flat rectangleshttp://www.blue-room.org.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif

I meant pre cut but bloody autocorrect on my iPad took over!

I would have just painted the cardboard boxes with pva and White emulsion.

What with auto Incorrect and spill Chuckerhttp://www.blue-room.org.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif we really do not have much control over what we write these days!

As far as the boxes are concerned I was just hoping that we could avoid some work but it looks like someone is going to be getting the paint brushes out!

Clas Olsen also do cardboard boxes, unsure if they are printed up, worst case, undo one seam and turn them inside out.

Those are printed.

I would have a look at some forex as well arguably more robust than the correx.

Just to close out the thread

We went with correx in the end as we were able to buy a couple of packs of White and the cutting tools for about £50.00! with the application of mat white Gaffer we now have a range of shapes!

We have also decided to map a car(Model) as we sourced a large RC scale shell from Otley Model sport I am currently working on that ATM!

Will try to remember to post some pics of the finished session

Thanks for your help all who contributed.
