I wasn't overly impressed with the technical overall tbh - the video was overused leaving all the fancy movers looking a bit useless and simply stuck on straw half the time. However, I guess they need to cater for whatever is thrown at them seeing as there are 43 possible finalists.

Oh - and how much smoke and wind? Some of the dresses were almost off at times...

I thought the set design was a little tame compared to 2007. Ah well, I still watched it with a bunch of tech friends and we all had a good laugh at the Spanish...ROBOCO!

PROCON as supplier has a huge stock of Martin fixtures (at moment they selling 360 used Mac 600...) so they just used a part of the equipment they have in their inventory. It's not always necessary to donate your fixtures to get onto a project ;-)

This years Procon excess stock auction.....

ends 28th.

When the 3 GrandMA's were joined together to create the one show, would it just be a matter of creating stacks of cues by 3 people making a joint effort on each one with there respective group of lights? Or would they just be assigned an amount of scenes each?

Following that, would the show have just been run off 1 of the desks, or all three?

In the past they've had different desks doing different parts of the rig - i.e. one desk doing the stage lighting, one doing the audience lighting and one controlling the media servers - so each desk has a seperate cue stack controlling parts of the rig.

Good heavens - how long is this thread going to rumble on for? Its getting very boring now. The best bit about Eurovision was the end!!!! :aacool:

Lets hope next year, the russians make a bit more effort in a decent stage design and something interesting to light!. Maybe if you were at the arena it might have been a bit more interesting to look at , but for tv it just looked bland and dull. To much LED and masses of movers not doing a lot

Ive actually set a design project for our 6th form BTEC Theatre Production to design a set for next years event. they have a choice of designing for in-the-round , or thrust. They will get a ground plan of an arena to work from.

Maybe we should submit the highest marked one to the russian production company for next year!! It might save them money to hire a designer who will just probably end up sticking a video wall in anyway!! :aacool:

That has got to be the most intelligent quote in the whole topic! Well it does make sense.

Does anyone see much point in Britain still putting some much into it financially? It feels like most of this country treat it as a bit of a joke, and we haven't won in a long time, and have come bottom 3 times in the last 5 years or so.

No point whatsoever ... why are the BBC wasting so much of our licence money on such utter drivel ... the whole contest has now became an obese farce where the winners are determined by political voting and the songs (if there are any that can be classed as songs) are irrelevant. There was a time (and I am old enough to remember it) when British songwriters and artists took it seriously and considered it an honour to represent their country ... now they won't touch it with a ten foot pole ... or any other Eastern European ;-))

According to Digital Spy, the BBC only put £173,000 into Eurovision, which for a three & a half hour Saturday night entertainment programme is extremely good value for money, despite us not having a chance of winning.

It's not even as if we liked our song, with it entering the charts at 67!
