I finished studying an HNC Technical and Production Theatre course at Edinburgh Telford College. It was mostly hands on and good work. I also work as an in-house lighting engineer at an Edinburgh venue, mostly lighting live band nights and clubnights. 7 years now! Oh and if you need a hand with the much loved Masterpiece desk (pfft!), get in touch; I've been using them for years ;)

    Favourite passion...
Lighting, lighting, lighting - in fact too much by my friend's opinions.
    I like......
going out with friends, listening to music, socialising and having a good time.
    I hate....
doing nothing, working long hours and not getting paid enough for what I do.
    For lighting inspiration.....
Top Of The Pops - It's an institutional programme and forget the performances, I watched it for some of the brilliant, creative uses of intelligent lighting. I also go to see shows and gigs when I can.

  1. Hey m8, I stumbled on your post about the pulsar masterpiece 108 patch function. Did you ever found out how it works? It would be a great help. Thanks. Pascal.
  2. That's a shame. I've got 4 Miniscan's that, if a 90w could be used, I would try and get my boss to convert them to LED.
  3. gyro_gearloose, did you get round to beefing up the miniscan to a 90w+ LED?
  4. Its at the Telford College campus Granton and they build a brand new theatre in two of the dance studios the year I was there. So I was the first class to use it all. Before that it was at the St Steven Centre, Stockbridge. I only took down the truss that was in there and removed the dancefloor.
  5. Is it!? Where is it based now... Edinburgh College? Do they have a theatre there?
  6. Never saw that you replied this this all those years ago! The course is still going strong with Allan Wolfe!
  7. So what kind of drivers and equipment would you need to run this 90w LED (I know nothing in terms to voltage and LED strings etc).... http://uk.farnell.com/ledengin/lzp-00cw00/led-90w-cool-white-mcpcb/dp/1901516#accessories
  8. So if you were to use a brighter LED source, what power of LED could you use in relation to the simplicity of your set up? (OK it's not exactly simple, but seems very straight forward rather than extremely complex). Would you need more or larger equipment? It would be good to see if you could fit a brighter LED like 90w, etc. That would really get heads turning....
  9. LadyJane, I'm guessing that the shutters still control dimming attributes. The Miniscan HPE doesn't have a lamp control function. Although this has led me to a similar question.... When you power up the Miniscan (cover on) does the LED come on straight away (like how the lamp used to strike straight away)?
  10. I'm not sure why you have turned the DC fan around. The Miniscan was designed to extract the air out of the unit as both fans extract hot air and pull new air into the unit via the fan grill above the lamp. By sucking air into the unit, the vacuum is lost and warm air is just pushed around inside the fixture. To be honest, I would've kept both fans in and as they were. Although you may think the mains fan will not play a vital role, you still have the stepper motors that heat up and it means you can have a smaller heat sink. I'm very impressed though! Makes me want to convert my Miniscan's now! p.s. Can you take a few more pictures such as the LED compartment sitting in the Miniscan and the LED itself and how it sits
  11. Well I asked Avolites about upgrading a Pearl 2000 with an emulator. Apparently it wasn't a straight conversion and the PCB that controls the information from the disk drive would have to be totally removed and upgraded with a new PCB. I'm not sure if software upgrades were also needed but if they did it for me, the total would have been in the region of around £900 to £1200 to do! I'm not sure about Fatfrogs but these were my circumstances....
  12. Hi Jamie,

I'm looking for a a Masterpiece programmer, can you PM me your number?

    C

  13. Yes I am. I think I was the second last year before the course shut down
  14. Ahhh! a Ex Telford HNC tech! :D
  15. Ach alright, but still pretty much homebound. Getting to work when it's really needed but I'm trying to avoid anything strenuous. Got another op in March so we'll see how that goes. How's yourself?
