P. Funk
Hardly a 'massive DMX rig' from me, but the lantern stock has doubled in size since I have been in charge. One phrase: "Parents Association" Also, many of the events we put on are Young Enterprise organised. We charge the Young Enterprise companies and buy equipment. richard_cooper
Eh? You have three venues with all this nice kit in a school?! Seems like I went to the wrong place for my education ... :( <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes we are very lucky, I should point out however that the theatre and hall are partly operated as commercial venues, with a mix of outside hire, and some smallish touring theatre shows coming in. The primary focus is still school use however and the relevant pupils get very good access to the venues and equipment.

raicttec
Hi EveryoneI am been too lazy I am a ICT /AV technican at a comp school in Rastrick West Yorkshire. We have two main theatre spaces which we have two separate set ups of both sound, lighting and video projeciton equipment set permanently in each space. We then have extra equipment such as some martin macs, a yamaha 01v96 and numerous floating projectors and other useful bits and smoke, talkback etc which we are able to use in both locations. We are also very lucky too have a full off line video suite with numerous tvs and 3 Cannon XL1s. Which is then backup up with 3 top of the range PC Systems. My main question is not amount but how? I can see from reading that there is some technicans out there. We have a huge budget fro ICT tech for servers computers projection systems etc but money for theatre stuff appears once in a blue moon which I have managed to spread well! Does any body know of funding which you can apply for as a school to help purchase and up keep the equipment bought working? Cheers Please feel free to send us a mail if you don't want to post figures etc Karl Bollandkarlbolland@rastrick.calderdale.sch.uk
mac500
At my old school we had 2 'venues' (term used loosely). Our main hall and our drama studio, both having to share the Lighting equipment between the two places. Lighting 4x Selecon ZS650w (650w Zoomspots)4x P743s2x CCT Min PCs3x P123s 4x P23sa few box type fresnels (P... something no idea of there number)3x Battens (no idea what there number was rank strand again) - They were only in the Hall.2x Pulsar Floods. Dimming Hall2x Pulsar 6way packs2x Rank Strand 6way Packs All on 5pin din plugs and had converter box for the strand-pulsar2x Pulsar 12ch manual 2 preset desks Drama studio2x Pulsar 6way Packs - 5pin din)1x zero88 Alcora - Nice desk shame about the noise of the go botton. Rigging Both Venues are on 5amp! Hall 3x FOH Bars fixed 3x Onstage bars fixed height Drama Studio2x Bars running the width of the studio Sound In both venues it was as equally appaling as the lights.I didnt get to involved with the sound but I knew enough to get by hall2x Carsbrolo Cabs2x Speakers that were in our cantean which we could opening the slidding doors and make the room bigger.1x 12Chn Mixer (no idea of the make all I knew was that it was rubbish)2x H/H ampsMic wise- an AKG hand held radio mic. couple of senhiser eSeries normal mics.and some cd players etc. Drama StudioWas like a home stereo system1x Amp1x Tape deck :( 1x CD Player It was so laughable we sometimes brought the PA over from the hall to use. Extras 1x Antari Hazer - Was allowed to use it until they changed the fire alarm system and then it started setting it off so was deemed completly useless. Long running battle to convince the caretakers that they could disable the zones but they werent having any of it! 2x Martin CX-2s 1x Martin 2518 Controller Dont ask why I wasted the schools money buying that little martin system I should of spent the money alot more wisely I.e a few fresnels or Source fours or something other then disco #####. Luckily we managed to sell them. I personally owned 6x Par64s which I used in school just to boost up the lx a bit and it was something so simple that that made the lighting a lot better. Obviously we had to hire in a fair amount of equipment for rock gigs etc and I found a local hire company Martins Lights who was really cool and could supply us with what we needed at a good price. Also for sound our very last rock gig we did we hired in an awesome D&B C7 rig from Sound Foundationfor that and it was so cool! Especially what we were used to. Anyways that was my old skool, at college its a lot better thank god!
mrcog
I was just wondering and I'm sure others might want to compare what they have. Well, to start I have (private school) LIGHTINGOne sirius 24 (Analogue)18 channels of dimming (2 need fixing)48 5 amp sockets scattered around the hall (16 FOH)14 Acclaim axial profiles 18-34 degree's(I think)6 Par 64's6 nine cell battonsabout 10 Pat 23'sAbout 20 quartets spread between our main hall and drama studioOne followspotLoads of fairy lights/working lights e.t.c. SOUND(I'm not a sound guy btw)3 Sound desks, one used as a fixed install for microphes during assebelly e.t.c)2 wireless lapel micsAbout 6 wired normal micsOne 12/4 stage box2 fixed speakers on the walls, I don't know what make)Assorted other speakersVarious Mic stands2 Trunk cases filled with assorted sound cables OTHERSOne stobe (student owned)Assorted Dj lights(Again student owned)2 T-bars (Guess what...student owned)(not by me btw)1 Jem 800 smoke machineBottles of fluid for smoke machineOne video camara for backstage feedLoads of extensionsOne set of camford Coms (8 stations)Assorted projecters stolen from teachers classrooms :DRandom Gels and gobo's And that is for a 400 odd seat hall, only used for exams, assembellys, parents evenings and theatre stuff. However, they are planning a 500K improvement for it. With 90K on new Kit. However, the school has just bought a huge new building so this redo won't happen before I leave . However, I am hopeing we will get the money for the new kit befroe the update. Also, we do have big budgets for our yearly big musical, not been told the final budget for tech stuff but I know it's over 5K. :D So... lets see what you've got... charl.ie
Oh you lucky private school students. Lighting wise we have:4 x Strand Patt. 233 x Strand Patt. 1234 x Minuette Fresnels4 x PAR6410 x Garage Flood Lights - 2 used as house lights, 2 top lighting, and 6 for the cycZero88 Alcora 12/24 preset desk3 x Zero88 Betapacks3 FOH bars - 2 attached to the side of the hall, one stupidly close to where the stage goes!!We have a fair bit of Q-Build Stage (36 panels of wood, assorted heights - mainly ~.5m with 6 ~.25m), a decent Chauvet smoke machine, a bubble machine and a strobe. Our stage area is used as a classroom, so we cannot have a permanent stage, or keep the wings and backdrop curtains down. You should all consider yourselves lucky if you have a permanent theatre area!! My current plan is to get some proper cyclorama lights (1 or 2 Codas) and some more profiles (2nd hand Cantata). cedd
Not my school any more, but may as well be with the number of times I'm asked back to hire kit and myself! I used to dabble in both sound and lighting, but am a noiseboy at heart. Lighting; 1 x Sirius 24 (love that little desk)1 x Fat Frog (and wish it was a pearl 2004)24 channels of dimming (4 x betapack 2's - plus another 3 ancient strand ones that ca occasionally be wheeled out, but we only have a 13A supply available to them!)10 or so Fresnels (500w)8 x Par 562 x Par 641 x Futurelight PHS200 moving head2 x Selecon Pacific with scrollersseveral generic 500w floods6 x LED par's1 x antari DMX smoke machine (student owned) Lighting was nice up until now, just wait for the sound! 1 x Spirit folio sx 12ch desk (nice little desk, but only 12 channels)2 x Carlbro gamma 15" 500w active cabinets1 x 24x4 multicore6 x very cheap Audio Technica mics2 x SE1a mics 5 x very inexperienced technicians trying to run the thing and who still don't know the meaning of a balanced line!
