  1. Although Chinese power supplies can sometimes have labels on them that are not accurate, as they use one board for several different version outputs, the power supply in your picture has a 60W power supply label on it. The Gigertop power supply you provided a link to is labeled a 95W power supply. Do you have a power meter such as a HOPI to see how much power your working mover draws on full output ?
  2. I always find graphs easier to relate to, the Low Pressure Sodium Lamp has a very narrow spectral wavelength, more descriptive here , I realise your question has nothing to do with bats, but this LED streetlight spectral output paper on bat activity indicates how little light output you will get after gelling a LED streetlight. You have not mentioned what colour temperature the LED streetlight is, to allow a more accurate comparison.
  3. A Vinyl Welder is a hot air gun with a narrow nozzle.
  4. I have seen circular cells on The Regal Theatre stage in Subiaco. Western Australia, where a circular ring of pin spots was built into a riser, facing upwards. As the prisoner moved towards the walls his face was lit, as he moved into the centre of the cell, he moved into partial darkness. There was no haze used. Being an old theatre there was a bit of dust around. Pin spots were wired in series and run from a JTM dimmer, cheap to run, but risky if one blows as you lose them all.
  5. Has anyone seen any of the 100W LED Water Waves in action such as the Equinox Waterwave XP or the Acme LED Waterwave 100W , are they equal in brightness to the ELC 250W halogen units ?
  6. When the newly placed ADJ fixture was placed on the ground, was its mode checked ? I have seen old led par fixtures go faulty and change to master mode after being powered up for a while, which caused them to transmit DMX and cause DMX collision on the DMX chain. It can be intermittant, so when rigging older outdoor fixtures on a truss, I prefer to have the fixtures powered in groups of three, so power can be turned off to isolate an old faulty fixture without losing too many lights. If the new ADJ fixture is doing this, get it replaced under the warranty. Lower priced DMX fixtures usually have their DMX in and out terminals wired together inside so need to be in master mode to transmit DMX.
  7. I do mainly live music and musicals and have used LightFactory for many years as it has a feature called Advanced Color Heuristics, spelt with no u in color. The explanation from the user manual is: "LightFactory has a unique feature that allows the software to calculate color matching for fixtures that have more than the 3 primary colors (RGB, CMY or HSI). The advanced color heuristics system of LightFactory attempts to overcome this problem by applying an advanced algorithm to calculate how much of the other colors should be applied. It should be noted that this algorithm is not perfect and is an approximation of the maximum output for a selected color. Because you may need to work with this option frequently you will find the same check box in the attribute color picker. You can change this setting in either location." One of the main reasons why I use this feature is because when selected, LightFactory will use all led emitters to approximate the colour you select in the colour picker, for example Rosco R000 Clear uses R100%, G100%, B100%, W91%, A48%, U/V70%, which significantly increases the output intensity. Selecting White on the spectrum uses R100%, G88%, B86%, W100%, A50%, U/V76%. Apart from the Nero which uses LightFactory as its operating system, which lighting desks use Advanced Color Heuristic ?
  8. The specifications for a Selecon Rama 1200 fresnel shows a Beam angle which is 50% and a Field angle which is 10%. Most LED PAR's have 12 or 18 lens so have different beam characteristics , but in general will spill light out the sides, so are not as bright or focusable as a fresnel or pc. The Studiocob led par has a Field Angle of 60 degrees and a Field angle of 80 degrees so is closer to a fresnel or PC, but does not have a variable beam angle. For that the ideal solution is a zoom COB. Theatrelight NZ have a 100W and a 200W LED Fresnel that is similar to a conventional fresnel, but the LED source is not a point source like a halogen lamp, so is diffused. It will be nice when a coloured led source comes out, to save having to change gel.
  9. This CR Lite is an example of LED PAR's on a stand. The advantage is low power consumption, the four LED PAR's can be focused on separate parts on the stage, I would focus the inside one on each side to above the screen. The other LED PAR's would be focused across the acting area. You can find them with hand held remotes or foot switches. There have been posts on The Blue Room on Lighting a Party Band and band lighting that has details on floor controllers. A floor controller may be more practical than a laptop or lighting desk, as long as the floor controller can record and play back scenes. You may even be able to trigger or control the lighting from your sound setup if you are using backing tracks.
  10. Light factory is one of many computer based lighting programs that may do the job for you. It has a free demo mode but you will need to purchase a usb to DMX interface dongle. In the manual "Line in The PC Line-in triggers can use any audio source to control LightFactory. An audio event can trigger a cue GO, fire a shortcut, flash a submaster or run a command. The “Line in” tab provides the ability to set the audio source and then create multiple events. Each event is determined by the frequency range, trigger level, level type and minimum time between events. For LightFactory to listen to the selected audio source you must enable it by clicking on “Enable Audio Triggers”. See LightFactory . There is a Lightning effect in the FX library that varies the intensity of the light to produce a flickering pattern.
  11. Some lighting desks have a Sound To Light feature that will achieve this for you. There is a post on the Blue Room lighting forum called Lights that reliably work off sound that may give you more information.
  12. You may even be able to work out a star layout.
  13. The condition of a blown fuse can help with the troubleshooting. A blackened fuse with the fuse wire splattered on the inside indicates a short circuit, usually a bridge rectifier. A fuse that blows quickly indicates an overload on that fuse rail. A fuse that curls apart could just be old age.
  14. The output stage is a Class B Complementary Symmetry amplifier. The link will explain how it works. I usually replace both transistors as a set, in case the other one is starting to fail, but the output resistor R33 may be open circuit. When testing belt packs, use the presence or absence of sidetone to help troubleshooting. If you can hear yourself on a beltpack, it is a quick check that mic and output amps are working. Next step is to add another beltpack to test audio quality. These notes might be of use to you when troubleshooting talkback. I had a Production Intercom, not Tecpro BP-1 belt pack with a faulty volume control and had to buy the volume pots from Production Intercom because of the sideways rotary control. If you come across Production Intercom BP-1 beltpacks where you get hum when touching any XLR connectors, the system is using an ac adaptor that does not have an earthed output dc plug. No hum when not touching any XLR connector. Quick check is to look to see if the mains plug has an earth pin and the IEC input of the ac adaptor has an earth pin. I got caught with this fault recently. The earthed 24V DC ac adaptors are much dearer, which is why clients try to avoid buying them. You can get laptop ac adaptors that are earthed that are thrown out these days.
  15. I have been offered IP65 LED PAR units with Powercon True 1 that are IP65 rated when mated. Considering changing over to these for my next set of IP65 led pars for convenience of being able to make custom length cables myself. This may open up your selection range of IP65 led fixtures and get away from multiple versions of molded leads.
  16. Hello Leuko I am an electronics Tech in Morley. Do you have a belt pack you want a signalling led added to ?

  17. There is this 200 Plus Programming Tips and Tricks USB Drive Functionality The USB Key Drive part number 67528 was 128MB. If you Google you can still buy 128MB USB drives, might be worth trying one, as I know the LSC maxim desks do not like large thumb drives.
  18. Hi I have a service manual for a Robe Club250 wash which I got from ULA http://www.ula.com.au/About It is 2mB do you want me to email it to you ?
  19. Excellent service description, thanks
  20. If I repair a dimmer with a low current triac , less than twice the rated load, I always replace it with a triac that is at least 4 times the rated load current, looking up data sheets to match gate sensitivity and other characteristics. I have a folder of triac data sheets to help cross reference. So for a 2.4kW 10 amp dimmer channel I would fit a 40 amp triac with a case style to suit the dimmer. If you look at manufacturers such as Jands in Australia, they dont use low current triacs.
