    Redundant Cable

Hi Guys, I know this is a bit cheeky, but don't ask, don't get and all.... I'm part of the organising party for The Big Cat Sanctuary's open days (www.thebigcatsanctuary.org). This is essentially a retirement home/breeding conservation project for all sorts of big cats. It is 100% not-for-profit, and is funded by its own fundraising and donations. What makes it different is that it is closed to the general public 360 days a year, other than to tours to no more than a dozen or so folk each day. The open days raise a considerable amount of funding for the sanctuary. And this is where I come in. We are putting in a 100V line tannoy, and main display arena PA. However we are short on cable. Very short. So, on behalf of the sanctuary, I'm asking, does anyone have any redundant/disused 2-core, or even 4-core cable that they are willing to donate to this charitable cause? Ideally the cable needs to be 2.5mm^2 or 1.5mm^2 in the four-core. Crikey, if anyone has any 4mm^2 2 core that'd be awesome but possibly unlikely. In total we are down 1300-1400m or so... The cable would remain the sanctuary's for use in future events, and not sold/retained for profit. If anyone is local to the venue, I'm sure we could arrange something in return..... I know its a cheeky long shot, but any help would be greatly appreciated... Best Regards James
  2. Maybe I should've mentioned that! Oops! So far at currant I have 1440W in 100V amps readily available; an extra 63% over the max of 900W in speakers. I don't need each speaker running at full volume output - I can easily afford to tap some down to 15W where I have 2 or 3 in proximity. Obviously, it won't be mega-efficient due to cable loss, but should it work out OK-ish on 2.5mm cable? Or should I bulk it up to 4mm as much as possible? Also, will there actually be a need for any more power to compensate for voltage loss? - given that its mostly background music, and the odd announcement with an extra dB tweaked in here and there.
  3. Thanks for the advice guys. Its for temporary install - 10 days in all. Star layout not possible due to there being 6 leopards right where the star needs to form. The emergency evac is covered by the main PA turned up so that it comes from the area furthest from the exits only, therefore only one source. Ive managed to work it so I have 900m/600m split. Would this be somewhat reasonably efficient on 4mm or 2.5mm cables? Note: it doesnt need to be operating at a loud output of volume. Its being kept low volume at multiple closer sources to eliminate concentrated noise near the live animals. Therefore, I can live with a power loss a little 'higher than average'...
  4. Having a mindblock here just want some fresh eyes if possible? Essentially need to run 30 100v Speakers ideally at 30W, over a one way distance upper limit of 1600m (3200m if you include the return) - doesn't seem like many speakers but its weaving around/over animal enclosures hence the distance. The speakers can be tapped down to 15W each if this makes everything more feasible. Essentially need some middle ground between cost efficiency with it being a charity, and sound output in terms of cable size and amplifier input power/amp make. Any ideas?
