  1. Speaking of nostalgia, you do realise that was 28 years ago??
  2. I remember Eltec. Their memory desk could be configured + or -. Doesn't help much I'm afraid.
  3. Not YET a recommendation, but I'm looking for a camera rucksack. Lowe make some that might fit your requirements (the link one it too small for a full size laptop), though I've yet to see one in the flesh. This sort of thing.
  4. On the other hand... When I was doing Am-Dram, it was an UTTER pain in the **** for me to collect and return hires. Maybe there is more use of carriers now, but that too would have been difficult as I'd have had to take at least part of a day off work at either end of the hire to be at the theatre.
  5. and you don't fit the "profile" of the type of person they would normally just lock up* *that might just be tending towards "politics" so maybe pretend I didn't say it.
  6. On the practicality front, rather than machine specific - Press button - plume of smoke behind subject - snap snap snap snap - Move subject a bit plume of smoke has dissipated a bit, but is now also in front of subject wait 10-20 mins for air to clear - and repeat
  7. I was thinking the same - just need to shimmy up with some thick jump leads...
  8. Good call; I'd forgotten them!
  9. Not actually after theatrical lamps, but someone may have some clues for me. I used to buy weird lamps from Specialist Lamp Distributors in Leeds. They have been taken over by Edmunson and seem to have just disappeared as an entity. Does anyone have recommendations for the weird and wonderful lamps?
  10. DMX is DMX. You may be confusing old Strand kit that used -10V as an analogue control voltage when Zero (and the rest of the universe) used +10.
  11. We are recruiting an A/V technician - I used to do some of this, but have been in Science for 10+ years. Please excuse the quality of the description, description, description... You'll see what I mean if you look before Monday! 37.5 hrs, 28 days hols £24k ish AV Technician at Winchester College
  12. and where they get their knickers in a real twist if someone dares to suggest that there should be checks to see if you are mad when you buy an assault rifle. More surprised there aren't more noteworthy accidents.
  13. I know you're not going this route, but the following might help someone else. We use OneLan here - this is NOT a recommendation.
  14. Maybe it is time to start building these? Icelandic CO2 capture plant.
  15. On top of the gas price rise; from the BBC- UK power prices soar after key cable hit by blaze
  16. Worst "proper" gig (rather than sweaty pub) was Clannad at Salisbury Squash Court, City Hall. OK, not an easy venue, but it was face-peeling top-end-tastic. We kept looking at the noiz boy, who was sitting back with a pleased look on his face. Maybe he'd just been sacked? Maybe he'd blown the top end of his hearing?
  17. It isn't only newbies that get it wrong - Wykham Festival
  18. Doubly so tattoos of your blood type. I did a first aid session* with the 'Head of Trauma' at the local hospital. He'd served with the marines in Helmand and related how many of them had the same tattoo. Imagine if you will a bunch of pissed up marines in a dodgy tattoo parlor. "What would effendi like?" "Wot he had mate!" His views on tourniquets etc was very down to earth - "Do whatever you need to do to keep them alive until we arrive. If they die, there's **** all I can do." * Part of a 'Bike Safe' day run by Plod - worth it for any bikers reading!
  19. Axminster do some casters that work quite well under my woodwork bench. They rise up to leave the thing sat on the floor when working. These.
  20. And the "pairs" are (in my experience) not anywhere you might want a pair of lanterns!
  21. I too have looked for wireless USB without success. I think the data rates are just too high for anyone to put out "this'll do any USB you throw at it" equipment. 22. Can you put a radio mic on the lecturer? That would help keep levels consistent if they wander off. When we get really high profile visitors down the hill from you, they insist on two entirely separate sound systems.
  23. There was a bit of a fuss recently when one of the auto-systems started tracking the "folically-challenged" ref's head rather than the ball in a football game.
  24. The colour looks like Halls, but I don't think it is T60 or 70. Mind you, the T70 I've used was generations old, so it could have evolved into a twin top tube...
  25. Nope.13>15 from the tester, 15>iec from the bar to the tester. All fairly standard stuff it you are doing theatres.
