  1. If your current TV's have analogue tuners then the modulator from a VHS machine and the supplier may be pleased you take it off their hands😁
  2. CPC used to do several but IIRC the called them something like encoders EDIT: Wow I can't believe the price hike, these: https://cpc.farnell.com/antiference/dmsd02/digital-modulator-twin-sd-dvb/dp/AP02864?st=dvb modulator were <£100, now £510+ another at £289+: https://www.alltrade.co.uk/shop/conexer-single-sd-dvb-t-modulator also available at Alltrade: https://www.alltrade.co.uk/shop/conexer-single-sd-dvb-t-modulator but one has to convince them you are a TV installer

    Audio attenuation

I've mocked this up and thinking about sandall's balance comment I set it up using a 10K lin pot for unbalanced stereo and played a bit of Pink Floyd Sheep as it has a heavy stereo effect. Rather than having a balancing effect it narrowed the width of the sound and only cancelled those sounds equal on both channels. Wiring as balanced attenuater (as Lamplighter offered) works a treat except for the kit I was using (Spirit notepad and Canford powered diecast monitor speaker via isolating transformer to ensure it is balanced) there is a very non linear feel with lots happening at each end of the track and not much over the middle half, reducing the 10K down to 2K made much better sense. I will demonstrate it to the owner of the unit to see if he wants to reconfigure it. As built the current arrangement is very difficult to alter on the hoof.
  4. Not something I'm particularly suggesting to do: At school we had lengths of railway lengths about 15-18inches long, very historic even back in late 60's stamped with '40lbs' and some half the size. I assume made in the metalwork shop with a couple of links and a 'T' handle which laid in the groove on the top (the rail laid on it's side) when not being lifted. EDIT: no,got that wrong, thinking of something else. they had several holes through the web and a separate handle arrangement to hook through a hole and lift them:My proportions are wrong but the basics show and of course the profile of railway track is now very different. They were stackable as the head and web were fairly similar sizes
  5. Now you mention that I remember the change of tech sheet that came with AT8033's.
  6. The only reason the pair are still here Is I wondered about converting to LED.
  7. Rob There are 2 of these, quite honestly they have been hanging up out of the way for a while. A bit fiddly to get them down at the moment (due to a foodbank invading the space) to take better pics. I planned to use them maybe 5-6 years ago (more for the prop value than lighting reasons) but the damaged cables & plugs/sockets didn't pass my PAT and it wasn't worth my time repairing them for the situation, in fact so wrong I'll strip them off before passing them over. I think a full set of bulbs but one unit is facing the wall, never seen them in use so no idea if all or how many are good. The Strand 8 was eventually sent for scrap during a clearout.
  8. I wish more people understood that🤔
  9. I'll say the same about the C1 and their version for the SM58 market about 30 years ago.
  10. Yep, mine too. I used to borrow one if available from where I worked. When they made me redundant in 2002 (due to downturn in work caused by 9/11) I accepted the unused 747 as part of the package. So 22 years. We didn't hold stock (other than consumables & sundries), the 747 had been purchased prior to 9/11 for a job which was subsequently cancelled. so a win-win deal was struck.
  11. Not an issue specific to 747's that I've been aware of. The lectern mic that really stood out with that problem for me was a CPC version of 925's, no longer stocked. I had 4 and sent them all back, they also had problems with AFILS feedback.
  12. I'm in the process of retirement clearout and have one 747 available if interested, It's been used less than 5 times (only appears twice on my 'kit used' records started in 2009). I will be listing other kit when weather is more predictable and can have a decent sort out. Sorry if the following seems to be a sales pitch, it just offering my opinion: I used to install 747's and AT's in lecterns, usually dependant on consultants spec, personally I preferred the improved GBF performance of the 747 and upgraded from AT to 747 a number of times. Sound wise I never had a direct A/B comparison but didn't ever think one had an edge over the other once EQ'd. Other advantages; they didn't suffer with going floppy due to being played with, only required a 10mm hole for mounting, less shock noise from the lectern. I'll go further and add I may still have some used AT's and wouldn't want to put people off buying them

    Audio attenuation

This is the main point I wondered if peeps would identify and precisely how it works. Its very confusing to someone (me) who didn't know the kit. It is also new kit to the guy I was assisting and from the floor he had no idea what I was doing to create sound cancelled areas, for that matter neither did I. It doesn't help that being log curve pots the null is near one end and surprisingly sharp that it's easy to miss when making a big change and overshoot. That is very much on the cards. And also ensure wired as: ccw off - cw full. This looks to be purpose built as a balanced attenuator and sign written as such. I see where you're coming from, however as it is it would have a flipping effect in that mode rather than balance.

The 2 dots indicate the anticlockwise end of the track so all the way down (anticlockwise) means female pin 2 is connected directly to male 2 and same for pin 3 ie full on. I'll also add the symbol above each control is typical of a volume control but reversed, IE:

I've been out today helping set up for a conference tomorrow. The kit includes a 6 channel passive attenuater in a 1U unit. Make something liike Tukaci so I assume oriental In this situation being used to remotely adjust the volume of 4 active speakers. Took me a while to workout what seemed to be the problem with it. Each channel consists of XLRf - dual gang 10k log pot - XLRm wired:- Anyone else see the problem?
  16. OK thanks. That may make it easier for some.
  17. Are you using the same mic switch? If so have you moved it away from the volume control?
  18. I've fought the same thing with silver so started using gold. I've not been able to find white from usual suppliers for a while.
  19. There are too many variations of rotary encoders to give a simple answer, My limited experience of 4 units were all completely different: 1) 3 connexions from a pair of proximity sensors and a magnet repeatedly sent one way or the other, 2) a series of 4 contacts repeated right round which sequenced either 1234 or 4321 on 5 wires but the 5 wires had voltages on them so the output was a saw tooth rising or falling, 3) 5 connexions but I did't open it to see the mechanics 2 connexions simply saw the pulses and would park closed or open, other 3 formed a common and left/right movement 4) contained what looked like a PROM on 5 wires.
  20. I have some that look just like those IIRC they were £69 for 4. But I assume I only have the one function model.
  21. I have 5 soundcraft desks from notepad to SX12, starting ate 1990's and not had a problem with lack of contact. However the little tab is very vulnerable. Initially I'd replace the cable until Soundcraft stopped supplying them, I suspect that happened when they were taken over. Instead I fit a mini XLR and a couple of local rivals/colleagues also have a selection, we have standardised on that modification. We were going to use MiniDin to match Behringer but it coincided with repairing one of those and we opted for the better connector.
  22. Position is often used for a point in time within a take, ie 30 second position I'd tend to use location to refer to a physical position during rigging etc.
  23. Forgive me if I'm wrong but it's been 20 years since I've worked on socapex fittings. I think the only part where it unscrews is hereand is there not some lockring or screws by the pins holding the block in place. The difficulty I have is we didn't use many but we used a selection of types/makes.
