1. Interesting, the guys spent a lot od R&D time on this and I spent a lot of time looking at project before investing. In my case there are 3 of us who regularly work together and planned to make 2 beltpacks and a psu each. We have made 6 boards up and 5 worked instantly, the sixth is distorted and over loud, I assume that a wrong resistor has been used in a feedback circuit but it has not been faulted yet.I have been very impressed with the whole project so far, the only thing we have not followed is the mic switch as the 'follow spot' guy predicted it will be too fiddly while wearing gloves. I wonder what alterations you are intending?

Trantec S2.4

I guess they are supposed to complement the S4.4 series etc and they are not line level output. Loud mic level yes but not line level.

Trantec S2.4

I haven't used them myself but I have been told there is no audible difference between the S2.4 and S4.4 and they are likely to work over a greater distance but shut off suddenly and take longer to come back.
4. If it is just as it looks - a bit of round bar and bent - I reckon a bit of round bar, a vice, a hammer and a hack saw.Might even be lucky enough to find the right sized nail to do the job rather than having to buy a long length.
5. Well we as a group of 3 people have populated 6 boards, I did one and the other 5 have been built 'production line' by the other 2 guys.5 worked straight away but the 6th is very distorted (sounds like too much gain somewhere and chopped), I was going to question the reason for the 15 turn pot for the hybrid but now understand completely, having trimmed them! So far we have not fitted the mic switch's as the first comment , from one who has spent many shows wearing gloves behind a follow spot, on how fiddly it looked was far from printable here. I plan to fit one and try is But otherwise I'm looking at fitting a daughter board and a second Alps switch with a round indicator button.Overall I'm impressed so far. Edit so far only one front/back panel has been cut and fitted to board and enclosure, I have found it to be a bit offset and assume one of the boards may not be accurately made, I think I really ought to elongate the fixing holes and trim a bit off one side but will see what the others are like first.
6. The trouble is it didn't actually seem too good, the last alps knobs I purchased were the larger size (about 1/2" x 1/4") and they cost me 7p in 2012 from Maplin. If they'd doubled in price that would be 14p (including VAT) or tripled in price that would be 21p as an individual item from a high street retailer, so 15.3p each in a bulk pack of 10 from a company who only deal with trade seemed spot on. In fact the more I think about it... The more I think...Starting at 7p and increasing by 10% a year get me to less than 15p in 8 years so 15.3p in 6 years does look higher than a good price, and these don't have the metal clip in them...
7. I have received 2 responses to the email I sent and the first 2 sentences are identical so I'm wondering if this is not an uncommon problem: Thank you for your email. As we are a commercial off the shelf distributor we buy in the Factory packs and then break this to sell in the split packs and smaller quantities. Unless stated otherwise our items are usually sold per piece on our website, I am sorry if this wasn't clear. We do currently have 18 pieces of this part in stock that can be delivered in 2-3 working days, and so would you like me to process a new order for you? As a gesture of good will I can waive the shipping on this occasion Thank you in advance I look forward to hearing back from you.
8.
Brilliant info, both items ordered (and other bits to make up order) 13:00 29th Jan, web site shows all items in stock in UK (unless I misunderstand their website). Shipment dispatched 22:26 today from Grande Prairie with predicted delivery 7th Feb. 3rd Mouser order showing UK stock, 3rd mouser order dispatched from USA. After this I really hope they are the correct item :)
9. The spec for all the buttons is on page four of the data sheet which is on CPC's website.Brilliant Thanks BM, I had seen that sheet before but didn't know where from. Even on the Mouser site it states it's cylindrical assuming I didn't misread something and that was confirmed by the guy I spoke to this morning. Now to try'n bump up the order to save postage.
10. sounds like that next person may be me. That button seems to be variously described as square, round or even 2 pole across different sites, I'll ring Mouser in the morning.I have kinda priced up for making 6 belt packs but the price of some items would come down considerably if others could be mixed in to make up bulk quantities or minimum orders. Anyone else planning at the moment?
11. Thanks for the useful responses.I haven't got into the Mouser habit yet as the only two orders so far have been filled from USA stock with the appropriate delay (3 weeks) so I'm still a bit wary. Now for the strange bit, when I searched Farnell from a PC the only Tda0372's are SMT, from another PC the through holes are there and the same is true for the mic switch, very strange! Can ford prices are also wierd with Xlr4 at £2.25 (good) but other items are far from competitive, then the minimum order value. Hopefully I'll be able to jump back on this Wednesday and place orders. Anyone else buying currently for joint order benefits? Especially canford.
12. Right, I'm starting to source the bits and so far have found most items in CPC.Items I'm struggling with are: IC4 - TCA0372, without paying silly money or risking Chinese copies, currently I'm looking at SMT version and an 8 pin socket to make it?? PL2 - XLR4F at under £5 SW3 - mic switch? also the more I look at this the more I think it looks very fiddly, has anyone any comments or made any mods? SW2 knob, These seem to have dropped out of circulation, I have some which are too big and considering filing the panels - ouch.
13. Is there currently a CPC sreadsheet for this, the couple I've tried to view seem to be extinct. My boards arrived on 13th Janwhich was an amasing service from China after the confusion of my incorrect ordering. In the confusion of correcting the order it seems I ordered an extra 10 boards which are available for purchase along with 3 front/back panels in black.
14. Yay my boards have been manufactured and posted, eventually, so hopefully they won't be in the post too long and I'll be joining you soon.
15. No worse than 'Jack plug' or 'Jack socket'Isn't 'jack' the name of a type of connector now... I know it didn't start like that but that's how it seems to be used now...Indeed yes it is now a style of connector, originally there were jack and slipper on telephone switchboards which became jack & plug when they changed connector style and the 2 formats became known as A & B Gauge switchboards. A gauge however is not to be confused with the current term as it bore no resemblance to a 'jack plug'. In '94 when I left BT jack still meant socket.
16. I only have a few items with Powercons, probably less that 10. When I purchaced something with a True 1 I did my usual thing of trying to break it and succeeded far too quickly, I promptly changed it to Powercon. With email approval from the agents as they had already had some kit returned under warranty with failed True 1's. Personally I have never been a fan of any of these types of connector and changed all my Speakon to XLR back in the 90's due to reliability issues. To date I've only had one failed Powercon but that was a cable dragged by a vehicle
17. No worse than 'Jack plug' or 'Jack socket'
18. Has this only just become public knowledge?
19. What parts are available at the moment? I really need to replace an old existing system that uses BT style operators headsets with carbon mics. Ideally I'm looking at 4 beltpacks. Ta
20. Surely that's the whole point of using a rope in this way, nobody sees a painted line :-) This site was second hit http://www.cheaprope.co.uk/coloured-multifilament-polypropylene-rope-24mm-p-837.html
21. Indeed they have been changed several times over the years. Back in the depths of the 1970's the six LICENSED channels at 10/50mW (handheld/body) were 174.0, 174.1, 174.25, 174.5, 174.8 & 175.0. One paid a fee for each channel required. Between 173.8 and 175.2 there were some other frequencies limited to 2/5mW and 50KHz bandwidth for which a free license was issued showing your allocated frequencies. IIRC, at deregulation the spot frequencies were dissolved but manufacturers tended to stick with them, following on from there spot frequencies were recommended with variations (ie 173.8) and then more recently the 200KHZ spacing recommendations. I believe there are currently no hard and fast rules within the 173.8 - 175.0 band. Above these and up to around 230MHz are another 30 or so spot frequencies (now significantly reduced by DAB) including high power 100/1000mW but obtaining the license can be very hard work. The biggest problem I find with VHF is the digital interference, particularly in hotels.
22. I have Trantec S1000's on 173.8 & 175 and Toa 3000's on which stay on 174.25 & 174.5 and never noticed any problem but if I add in 176 or 177 all hell erupts.
23. Well I understand what you are trying to say but if the OP wasn't confused I bet he/she is now. The combination is fine as long as the speaker is designed for bass work. Realistically the difference in sound pressure level (volume) is hardly noticeable when you simply double the power, in fact most people would be hard pushed to tell the difference. I have some 300W amps at 4Ω and generally run them at 8 or 16Ω, I prefer to add amps rather than run them flat out.
