  1. The correct procedure is to get a Carnet. However plenty of people carry personal instruments in and out of the EU, is that a midi controller or synth you have there? Would a customs agent really know the difference? Is it a risk you would be willing to take?
  2. I use these http://www.navis-anemometers.com/smartphone_anemometers.php I've mounted mine on a spigot in a super clamp, quick to deploy on a range of surfaces. The cups are the weak point, but buy a couple of sets and you are good. Share access with production / H&S / anyone with a smart phone
  3. Conversely I find the bigger the mirrorball facets the fatter the beams you get from it. The smaller facets just end up as mush - lots of tiny indistinguishable beams.
  4. Clear com cc-27 is my go to for this, sadly discontinued now.
  5. The issue you tend to get to with large quantities of video panels isn’t total current draw, but earth leakage. If your supply is on a 16a 30ma rcbo you’ll generally amass earth leakage of more than 30ma before you reach the 16a limit. Neutrik True 1 connectors are only rated for 16a, powercons are rated to 20a, however true 1’s are rated for connection/disconnection under load, where as powercons are not. The connectors on that panel however are not neutrik connectors…
  6. Astera NYX bulbs could be another option, built in crmx receiver
  7. The Roland XS-1HD might be worth a look for your application https://proav.roland.com/global/products/xs-1hd/
  8. For simple passive di’s the Neutrik NA2 M-J-TX is pretty hard to beat. Small, no switches to get knocked, sounds pretty good, permanently ground lifted, cheap.
  9. A lot of smoke and haze machines use Ulka pumps, which can be had for much less from coffee machine service places, if you can work out which model you need
  10. Second hand Clay Paky Sharpys can be bought for between £600 and £1000 per unit, depending on condition. Budget for a new red dichroic and a lamp. Robe pointies can be found for around the £1200 mark, but are more versatile. I'd buy second hand quality over new budget due to availability of spares, cross hireability and proven longevity
  11. Have you left the menu on the A.xxx display? As if you leave the menu with SLAV displaying it might be in a master/slave stand-alone mode, not the DMX receive mode.
  12. Out of my 20, 16 are good, 3 are needing new gobo sensors, one is blowing fuses. Not bad for a light made in the last millenium... Still the best sound to light show I've ever seen (although some of Tim's Abstract gear comes a close second)
  13. ASL Ps19a belt pack has a local aux input that just goes to the headset rather than on to the whole comms ring. I’ve picked up 3 of them second hand, and they are so useful. https://ret.de/media/uploads/2018/02/ASL-PS-19-Manual.pdf
  14. When we replaced our Mac 500’s with studio spots and technobeams we missed the stock 500 gobos. The litho wheel had too much colour in it for our taste, and the non-coloured litho gobos, whilst great for projection, didn’t have what we desired for beam work, so we had a set of more beam orientated - basic geometric shaped - gobos made. Triangle, fan (the double quadrant one), bar, circle/cone, dots…. I still find fixtures today have too many breakup options and not enough basic beam shapes for my requirements - more live music that theatre to be fair, but you are asking about a club environment
  15. Very thin front surface mirrors are available cut to precise dimensions from http://www.scientificmirrors.co.uk/ They have sorted me out mirrors for various scans successfully, I can highly recommend them
  16. Ayrton Eurus with liberal use of the variable cto. Seriously quiet operation
  17. Anyone who uses Martin sceptron, any one that comes across a zr44 that has dodgy dip switches, any one who needs to change a mode on a light that doesn’t want to climb…. Not daily, but often enough to have both a Swisson and a DMX cat in the tool box.
  18. Are your current 4 wheels in the corners of the trolley? Moving the existing wheels inwards to create a shorter wheelbase with greater overhang at each end could help, much like when putting 3m truss on dollies there is a sweet spot where they don't scrape on ramps. The caveat is go too far and the overhangs can dig in...
  19. The earpiece on the CC-27 is the weak point, not very clear or loud, the recently released CC-70 may go some way to remedy this
  20. I’ve carried my own headsets since the late 90’s, as the corporate companies I worked for didn’t have any hygiene controls in place, and I suffered from ear infections from wearing their headsets, often for 10+ hrs a day. I currently have a set of Dave Clarke H8590 as my standard set, a couple of pairs of Peltor 8006 - fantastic for rock shows / raves, and a Clear-Com CC-27 which is great for corporates and superb for LD’s that want to call spots without having an ear piece in, if they are on IEM’s for example. The mic on the CC-27 remains clear even if left open at FOH under louder than war conditions, paired that with followspots on the 8006’s and you have a very useable setup for extremely loud gigs.
  21. https://www.cablejog.co.uk make quality kit, a little pricey but buy once cry once.
  22. The storage place on the A40 often has a harrier on the roof, it changes monthly.
  23. I’ve been considering an Opolar air duster for a while, but have not put money into one yet, was hoping to find a real world review rather than just youtube recommendations. I used to have a small Stanley compressor for on site servicing of lights, but it was a lump to carry around, and I don’t do much install servicing any more Edit to add - spot the rookie error in their promotional video
  24. It looked more like rotoscoping than live lighting effects, there was a line in the credits that mentioned a vfx company.
