Jivemaster Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 Some while ago I saw brushes offered for cleaning Ceeform plugs and sockets inside. Now I'm looking for a cleaner for XLR plugs and sockets, Can anyone offer a source or solution please?
gyro_gearloose Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 You want a brush to get inside an XLR socket? I'd be surprised if anything that small, yet stiff enough to actual clean the contacts, even exists. You might be better off with some deoxit cleaner and an old toothbrush.
empyfree Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 We use a “sonic scrubber” for cleaning all sorts of things. Never found the need to clean an XLR end but I dare say it would give it a good go! Now... how to break it to the new technicians... apparently xlr cleaning is a thing... I guess if you’ve had one trodden into some fine festival mud you could always pop the outer sleeves off (and into the dishwasher?!) leaving you with the plastic inners and pins to brush clean.
musht Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 Used a spot blaster gun on compressed air to clean corroded contacts in car light clusters. Its slightly vicious depending on medium used for blasting.
bigclive Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 I wonder if an interdental brush might be useful for getting up tight receptacles?
Stuart91 Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 I wonder if an interdental brush might be useful for getting up tight receptacles? Wouldn't it just push any loose dirt further down the socket?
bigclive Posted November 8, 2018 Posted November 8, 2018 I wonder if an interdental brush might be useful for getting up tight receptacles? Wouldn't it just push any loose dirt further down the socket? Any more than actually mating the connector? I was thinking more of loosening dry mud so it could be tapped out.
Jivemaster Posted November 8, 2018 Author Posted November 8, 2018 Having just spent the 5th Nov season somewhere in a field, trying to mate xlr leads for fireworks data, I think the inter dental brushes look exactly right, maybe aided by some contact cleaner spray (foam??).
