Alwal
has any one got any recommendations for 'go to' house music for performances and events?
paulears
As in 'go to the bar', or 'go to your seats?' House music needs to simply not annoy anyone - so it's not picking the most popular whatsoever, because popular music is age segregated, so are your audience Radio 1, 2, 3, 4, Classic, Smooth, Jazz, rock etc etc etc - Play a death metal track to middle age people, and it will annoy in the same way as playing classical music to a 14 year old. Pick the music to cause the least number of people to hate it - so usually blandish, or just a bit wet really.
GaryNattrass
You can't go wrong with the Crazy Frog as it generally equally annoys everyone across ages and gender! http://www.blue-room.org.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif

bigclive
The choice of ambient music depends on the atmosphere you want to create. It could be:- Or whatever fits the production.
Jivemaster
The walk in music COULD be part of the show, it could also suit the expected age range of the audience. It could be loud enough to be a show in it's own right or it could be quiet enough to just hide the silence of an empty room. Or of course it could be "lift Musak" or total silence. david.elsbury
I like "Cafe Del Mar" for corporate walk in... generic, upbeat, in offensive
lonemorf
Pete Tongs Album "Classic House", has got a lot of really good tracks for this. As its done with an orchestra, it appeals to the older generation, but the tracks themselves vary by age, and can cover from "last year", to "last decade (or 2)". Im really finding it a very useful collection of music to cover a broad spectrum. Recommend you have a listen (£8 on amazon)
ninjadingle
Cafe Del Mar is great for corporate, that said I have a few different playlists depending on if I'm doing a school show, a festival, an awards evening.... Tailor it to the event, and always have something ready just in case!
sunray
We needed Gymnopedie for a play earlier this year and the director took ages to chose, it was the Cafe Del Mar version but she changed her mind about 10 minutes before the play started. LXbydesign
Great playlist selections on Spotify. Granted to get rid of the adverts you need to goto the 'pro' version which is a tenner a month - but if your using it every day or most days for work, then I think its worth it. Also of course - as you can have it on 3 or so devices on your account then you have it for personal use too! I always use it now . Always on at home for background music and then ready to do the do for a work gig!!
J Pearce
I’d check the end user license agreement for Spotify carefully before using it in a commercial context.
timsabre
I was just looking at this the other day - indeed you need a "Soundtrack Business" account (apparently some offshoot of Spotify) to play in a commercial setting - £35 per month though. It's not legal to use Spotify Pro account for this. All comes down to the complicated agreements they have with the rights holders.
