PatrickLXdesker
Could someone tell me what the lamps are that are used a lot in live television, I originally thought they were Mac Quadrays but they appear to have 8 rays?
mark_s
A spot with appropriate gobo, perhaps?
Brian
You mean things that give this sort of effect... ...? It's done with a filter on the camera.
timsabre
Alternatively you might be seeing Clay Paky Sharpys with the prism in - Strictly had a lot of prismed sharpys last night. And there are certainly a lot of Sharpys on live tv...
david.elsbury
A picture tells a thousand words, Patrick... ;)
PatrickLXdesker
I can't get a photo on here as I'm a bit thick but this URL has an image of the lamp I'm referring to http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/x-factor-sam-bailey-x-2871646 I think they are Clay Paky Sharpy's with Prisms in, gives a very good effect IMO.http://i1.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article2798843.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/Sam-Bailey-2798843.pngModeration: I've done it for you - Just find the url, making sure it ends in .jpg or.png, and insert it using the little picture icon next to the link symbol. paulears
That does rather look like a rather ordinary gobo, rather than something 'special'.
timsabre
That does rather look like a rather ordinary gobo, rather than something 'special'. Indeed, I would suspect it is the same gobo as the one shining on the floor in the other fixtures. The Sharpy prism is a very tight cluster of 8 beams
niclights
The gobo's on the floor look like Varilite to me. The fixture behind the artiste on a dolly doesn't, nor does the gobo. Could be a Nova Flower or similar.
Tim Edwards
If you are refering to the white beams in the picture, it looks like a Nova Flower to me, made by Nova Light. Tim
Joe Bleasdale
Yeah, in the picture, Nova Flower. Sharpys with the prism and gobo 1/2/3/4/5 in offer a similar, but tighter beam effect. And if you want "twinkles" on camera.... Ask the camera/vision guys to insert a star filter - job done! Thanks.
paulears
but then the camera supervisor starts to moan about HD glass being spoiled by the star filters! Can't have everything!
maxjones2000
You are correct, the large one is a Novaflower, and the smaller ones are outrigged VL6C+'s and that gobo is 'Pebbles' (you can tell I've been working on VL's all day!), and there's also a lot of outrigged VL5's there too (the one furthest to the left). I noticed in one of the acts on Saturday (couldn't say which), there was a VL3000 Spot where the Nova is in the piccy above http://www.blue-room.org.uk/public/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif
Jamtastic3
How could you think that was a Sharpy - look at the size of the fixture!?
