Tim gregory
I am looking for some unpopulated 8 way trapezium shaped stage boxes similar to these (but without the connectors): http://cpc.farnell.com/adam-hall-hardware/k8c15p/multicore-8-inputs-15m/dp/DP32228 They are to put on the end of an RGBHV video loom with BNC connectors Any suggestions would be great. Glyn Edwards
Canford certainly do a range of trapezoidal 8 way boxes prewired (eg These). It may be worth a phone call to see if they can simply supply an empty box. HTH
TomHoward
CLD sell a populated box, but with punched plates available for D-type connectors: http://www.cld-dist.co.uk/gfx/products/large/sbn1b8.jpgBoxes http://www.cld-dist.co.uk/gfx/products/large/sbn4d-panel.jpgPanels Boxes are £29.39 and panels are £1.16 If you can get away with 6-way it'd be cheaper to buy Thomann multicores, drill out the connectors and throw away the cable (6-way cabled boxes are £22, link) - or get a 24mm q-max punch and make an additional couple of holes in the top face
Tim gregory
Thanks for the replies. The Thomann boxes are a good shout. Most of the multi's can be 6 way RGBHV + Comms. I want to put RHBHV, Comms and some Cat5 through one of them but could easily drill the extra holes. Thanks, Tim
Tim gregory
Just to say I brought the Thomann boxes and they are great value for money. The boxes seem well sturdy so far with decent cable grip. Thanks, Tim

Thanks, Tim This is the end product of the boxes that I brought, replaced 5 of the 3pin with BNC's and left one for comms. On one of the units I added cat5's to the top to allow for converters on stage. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5414529/IMAG0467.jpg Tim
Brian
Probably a bit late now but Neutrik make these... ...which makes the BNCs a bit more robust.

Yes I have used the Neutrik connectors on some of my kit. I brought a used panel with about 60 BNC connectors for £10 so managed to keep the costs well down as I was doing a bunch of these multi's.If they start to cause a problem in the future I can always replace them with the Neutriks. I did replace the connectors on the tail ends with the Neutrik Rear Twist BNC's and these seem great so far. Tim
Rigger
When I've made this sort of thing in the past I've used Techflex style sleeving over the cables. It allows smoother pulling of the cables without snagging and protects the more fragile cables.
david.elsbury
Curious minds want to know, what cable/s did you end up using? In the pic I can see what I assume to be an RGBHV, and 2 Cat5, surely there would be another 2 Cat5 and a mic line? CheersDavid
abbotsmike
There is an RGBHV, 2 cat5 and a mic line there from what I can see. The mic line isn't easy to spot unless you enlarge the image though. Due to cat5 having 4 twisted pairs, and Ethernet comms using only 2 twisted pairs, it is possible to get 2 ports down one cable, as I suspect has been done here. Tim gregory
Thanks for the replies. I didn't realise the Techflex style sleeving existed. I will look into that. On this particular cable there is actually 4 cat5 cables and one audio cable taped to an RGBHV cable, despite it looking less in the picture. On the rest of the cables I did, it is just RGBHV and the audio. I got the RGBHV cables in an auction a few years back but had lots of trouble with the BNC connectors. Tim
