  1. I've used them both and played with the A&H and RCF ones. For some things they're great BUT....... For really small things (and saying "Toolbox" makes me suspect that's what you're thinking) I absolutely HATE needing to mess around with external devices, software, potential wifi issues, where all I really is some simple instant knobs to reach for. I was going to pick up one of these back before the world went mad, mostly out of curiosity to try out. If it worked at all well it could have been really useful to me, but then....
  2. I think you may be thinking of "Parallel Action Pliers" such as these, but I may be wrong. Often used in jewellery making and the like, but I've seen them in more industrial applications. My choice of tool for gripping, crushing, and turning random stuff has, for a long time, been the Knpiex 86 03 250 Pliers Wrench
  3. I use Yodeck which runs on Raspberry Pi which does everything you need, I think. I've never used the function to turn screens on and off, but is has it, and it works over HDMI CEC. One player is free with monthly or annual subscriptions for extra screens. Get an annual subscription and they'll give you a free ready configured Raspberry Pi 4 We've also got some BenQ digital signage screens and their in built Android based X-Sign software is pretty terrible. They're 4k screens but the built in player is only just capable of playing 720p videos smoothly...
  4. As far as I know, one of only two, and it had several transmit capabilities, including 2MW CW 100% duty cycle at (and now I'm going from rusty memory) 2148MHz, with a 34dB of gain from the antenna, if someone wants to work out what the EIRP of that is heading out to the sky, which is why it could bounce off Saturn :) According to at around 12:10 it's 20 Terawatts, if I'm understanding correctly. Even on video, this tour can mess with a fear of hieghts.
  5. As a veteran of 16 years of on and off work with young people in theatre the above is absolutely spot on. Both EOS and MagicQ also include a form of visualiser that can be invaluable for lerning when spaces are not available. Augment3D has been invaluable over this second lockdown to deliver some form of online training.
  6. Playbox Theatre's Dream Factory in Warwick tonight after a MEGA short storm.
  7. The A&H R16 (don't remember or see a USB version?) and Midas Venice F are both discontinued Firewire devices, so no real advantage on the OP's current solution. It MAY be possible to get them to work on a new MacBook via a collection of dongles, but for how long? X32 would, I suspect, be in the "mega complicated digital desk" category, more on which below. The only product I'm aware of that is a direct replacement would be a Soundcraft Signature 22MTK, which I've never seen let alone used so OP would need to check it really suits. Having said that, I would encourage NostromoUK to not be afraid of digital desks. Something like an A&H QU16 would do the job well, without being very complex, and offer additional benefits such as recallable scenes more inbuilt processing, effects, etc.
  8. During the current shutdown of our theatres, I'm needing to get a lot of our connected artists to send in self-taped video content. I've never done much of this myself and wondered if anyone has any tips on how I should ask people to submit their content? I want to make it as simple as possible for the creators, who will range from tech-savvy people (who'll make it happen) to those who just want to record with a phone. The clips will be 5-15 mins in length so probably not emailable for many people. Tips?
  9. Artistic Licence Matisse Light-Switch II I've not personally used one, looked at it for a project that never went forward. Will do basic chases apparently. I did look at the software that you can download but don't remember anything particularly good or bad.
  10. Resurrecting this thread, I found this at the back of a store at work today. Not just early Chauvet, but Martin were at it as well at some point. I thought maybe it was a counterfeit, but sure enough on Martin's website there are two manuals for this machine, this one and a slightly later one where the remote is hardwired. And no, the earth pin in the remote socket is not connected to earth, shows continuity to both live and neutral on the inlet however. I've not got time to investigate further at the moment.
  11. That document was withdrawn in 2017 and replaced with this.
  12. On occasion I have a few light weight 1-2 rack unit devices that it would be really handy to hang on a bar or truss, think DMX nodes, 2u audio stage boxes. Is anyone aware of an off the shelf rack frame/case designed to be suspended from a couple of clamps? There may be a good reason for not doing this that my Christmas show tired brain is missing. I know that I can get truss mount nodes, but this is an occasional need to use current kit. My google skills are either failing me, or nothing exists. Thanks!
  13. If anyone's interested I've got an ELC Focus Hand 3 that's no longer used I'd be willing to sell....
  14. It should do, up to 1080p60. You'll need a USB-C to Thunderbolt 2 adapter as well. As it happens I'm testing a mini recorder into a 2019 iMac via Apple's USB-C to Thunderbolt 2 adapter tomorrow. I'll report back the results! Richard
  15. I'm looking for a source of connectors like these, https://eztube.com/product-category/connectors/quick-release-push-pin-system/ or https://www.estoconnectors.com/catalog/connectors/1-inch-square/1-inch-qr-series-quick-release anyone aware of an equivalent easily available in the UK. I've searched but cannot find anything. Ideas?
  16. Great, as I'm seeing more applications in my day job for small shows to be packaged down to one laptop. Just checking I'm not missing some killer feature!
  17. Not knowing PCStage at all I may be wrong on this, but does QLab not now cover this area as well? Cheaper than Showmagic, it does require a Mac. Or were there additional functionality I’m missing in PCStage?
  18. I could do with a copy, could do with finding it by December, so would be great if you could.
  19. Real petty, when I had a load of the Line 6 radios I dealt with their service centre in Rugby, and everything was always done next day for what seemed like a flat fee. Since Yamaha took over and closed the Rugby office it all seems to have gone down hill.
