  1. Sealed sterile products are more likely to be sterile after a year than odd bottles of tap water
  2. Like many things, if it's your treatment then it's your choice, HOWEVER if you are going to or have already called 999 then administration of substances should be left to the paramedics.
  3. Sodium chloride and potassium chloride are life essential salts and are excreted in sweat. in cases of extreme overheating, dehydration is an issue Rehydration is the basic cure, rehydration with slightly salted water is better, rehydration with mixed KCl and NaCl is even better. Slightly meaning half a percent by weight or a small pinch in a cupfull If you haven't prepared rehydration drink then a bottle of water and some ready salted crisps is a plan.
  4. POSSIBLY partially a deliberate delay to reduce the chances of feedback when a mic is pointed at a speaker.
  5. The problem with disability is that every person is different. Some are colourblind some have prosthetic arms or legs etc etc. There really is NO universally suitable and sufficient adaption.
  6. It may be possible to make a new venue "accessible" but usually at a cost. However how do you make big changes to vintage buildings which have possible protection over building changes (listing etc)
  7. Long ago (10 ish years) I had a few of these from Le Maitre, SO it's worth asking Le Maitre, but don't assume that they have a full compliment of spares now. If the pods you have are still complete then look for tiny brushes to clean the connections first (Lidl for inter dental cleaning brushes near toothbrushes!)
  8. If they need hearing assistance then they likely have an NHS audiologist. If so, then that person will be able to assist in your search for wisdom.
  9. BUT! "I know of" is much more likely to happen again than an able bodied person's opinion of what might be likely for someone of impaired ability.
  10. Once working in a photo business, a darkroom was modified to suit an employee of less than average height. unfortunately this made the room hazardous for average to tall colleagues and two were hurt.
  11. Look around this forum and maybe go to PLASA show in early September. Find yourself a niche where your computer and networking skills make you very valuable to an employer. Which could be sound, video, and/or lighting. Sadly no employer wants an employee who has other commitments, and from past experience striking a show at 2am being home by 4am makes it hard to be at a place of employment by 8am fit to work.

    DMX problem

We all know of a DMX network that works but doesn't comply (I knew a well paid DJ who fanned out DMX in twin flex and it worked for years) BUT the first fault finding needs to be the cable and the connectors. Because DMX is effectively RF reflections can occur at damage or breaks in cables these can be reflected back down the line and confuse or conceal the sent DMX -hence the frequent finding that the fault shows up somewhere else.

    DMX problem

Rarely do DMX faults happen inside a box (desk, splitter luminaire etc. ) Faults usually happen in a lead and usually at a connection.
  14. Unless you need tonnes of it look for a supplier with something that you could use. If you will need several tonnes then search for "Hydro Extrusions" Having been involved in a development project using extruded alloy years ago ask for help with die design, not everything forms as you want.
  15. Some electronic power supplies will suffer from the delay between zero crossing and triac switch on which may be small but it's often finite. There used to be "relay packs" as well as dimmers. which were a simple contactor per channel which switched on at some DMX value and switched off at some lower value.
  16. With the cost of six replacement Macs the cost of a hard power circuit seems trivial.
  17. The blue tape used by windscreen fitters to hold a screen while the seal hardens WILL take paint off after a week of sun. Removable tape has limitations. The first advert wraps on London black cabs were supposedly removable BUT after a year in service the glue had become permanent and many affected cabs had to be totally resprayed

  19. Cat5 patch cable used to be stranded, take four strands and fix with superglue, evostick or Boxer100 (if it's pvc insulated) -Boxer 100 is a specialist PVC cement used in the repair of PVC liner swimming pools. Added; wires.co.uk seems to stock lots of types and sizes of wire in moderate reel sizes.

  21. Some pyro effects need to be hot flame effects to work, others are gas propelled streamers or fetti. IF pyro is essential then look at what pyro fits the plot and the space.
  22. That the course made you think, means it was worth while. Do a test in a safe place placing white paper under the intended pyro then fire it! Assess the marks produced for acceptability, what is acceptable on an old pine board stage may be different from what is acceptable on a polished hardwood floor. Grass can be very variable, green grass doesn't burn much but brown grass burns like a California wildfire. Pyro may cost much money but an accident costs more. A test for the tech's and producers/directors, then a test for everyone who will be onstage is essential. Everyone who interacts with the pyro (panto fairy coming on to a flash etc etc) all need to be familiar with the pyro and act the correct response.
  23. While most in this place could run a UPS for phone and IT support, sadly it's useless if the network providers do not back up their nodes. Every theatre has back up for lighting but few (none?) have back up for phones and switchboard even fewer have backup for their whole IT system, even then no-one knows what the network operators will have supported through a power cut. During the tube bombing emergency, the landline network was rock solid even though the mobile network was unusable.
  24. The issue after you have found and funded a satphone and long term power support is that most of the people you want to call have no phone service either. Consider that your satphone will communicate with a ground station then redirect to your called number but no-one really knows what country your call will first land in, so getting the right emergency 999 desk will not happen. While individual effort is commendable the phone system needs it's network running before phones can work. Likewise no-one really knows what the ham band usage will be like
  25. Here's hoping that everyone and "the film company" are all well insured.
