  1. The specification for DMX specifically says not to use it for anything hazardous or where mis-function could be hazardous. So you are on your own to determine the safety of your proposed system. Can you come to a written and reasoned decision that the worst possible condition would still fail to a safe condition. No-one care about the system failing to work as expected but putting person(s) or things at risk is totally unacceptable. However I do like your find as part of a well considered solution.
  2. Put it in a character's handbag for the walk down, dame?
  3. Does anyone have two beltpack boards available please, Maybe also a base station board?
  4. My experience has shown that the connectors are more likely to be the problem.
  5. Sadly if you do not have permission to cut metal -for whatever reason, then you may NOT cut metal. End of story. School budgets often don't include expensive repairs! Remember that a gobo will sit at the hottest part of the light beam so needs to be very heat resistant. Stainless steel is good aluminium can work. People can jury rig a gobo with foil from a take away meal container or thin sheet cut from a drinks can.
  6. Sadly (in many ways) today's youth seem unable to exist without a phone doing something.
  7. AH! The personnel agency :( I started a new job 12 months ago (outside theatre) and to prove my identity I had to produce some hard ID documents -easy- Passport, driving licence, Pilots licence and RAF service documents. Last week they asked for proof of entitlement to work in the UK!!!
  8. These things need the correct fuel to operate to the Chinese definition of safely, without the correct fuel the effect, fortunately, is insignificant rather than incendiary. Whether these can ever be made safe and compliant in the UK or EU is another matter completely.
  9. Unless you get that Chinese translated you are in for some surprises, This is one of the downsides of buying direct from China. Actually there are some flame machines from China that need special liquid fuel in aerosol cans, and that has to travel sea freight taking 8+ weeks because aerosol cans don't go on air freight. Whether your flame proj...... only you will determine when you read the instructions. Ask for help in your local Chinese take away.
  10. Another vote for the plug in meter from Maplin and others, they are quite common now with people checking energy usage. Even remote reading ones are available. As a rough guide an amplifier will draw about 1.8 - 1/4 it's rated power with live music, 1/4 - 1/2 it's rated power when used with compressed music. Only in industrial applications such as servo driving or the like will power draw approach the rated power, which some amps can't take for thermal dissipation reasons. Measure the current draw under realistic levels while playing, the idling current may be tiny.
  11. Never tried it but Coffeemate is dry Glucose syrup. Does it behave like milk when in water. Then you only have glucose to wash out / mop up.
  12. Aircraft landing lights come to mind, tend to be 28v and 250 to 450 watts and par 36 0r 46 or a disco 500w wagly mirror light
