External Up-lighting

Hi,

We are tasked with getting prices for 4 external up-lighters that need to shine about 60 meters without the light encroaching on the interior of the building. The lights will be placed 4 meters away from the building and cannot project inside. Can you recommend any companies that can quote for this job as close to Leeds as possible?

Your client hasn't been looking at the Leeds John Lewis store have they?

That seems pretty close to your description. The design was by Kemps Lighting in Kirkstall and each unique uplighter was designed individually with a different casing dependent on position and different optics to suit. A cracking project but it must have cost several limbs and a mortgage.

If they are too costly they might be able and willing to point you to another local company, you can only ask and they can't kill you.

It's been done a few times using custom gobos or masking (depending on the optics type).

There's a statue in France lit by exterior HID spotlights with custom gobos carefully cutting out most of the spill past the statue.

That said, the effect will degrade as the fixtures age, the optics get misted/dusty, and over time they get scratched, the gobos/masking and optics burn out/degrade and the focus gets knocked.

So there will need to be an ongoing regular maintenance plan to keep the fixtures clean, in good condition and accurately focused.
