False ceiling fabric choice?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Looking to build some set that will include some false ceiling flats. Do people have recommendations for what fabric to use for this? Looking for a white ceiling, doesn't need to be a blackout fabric, but not too see through in normal light.

Ideally looking for the lower cost options.

Cheers

Thin cheap fabric will possibly NOT meet any fire safety regulation in your area. Getting cheap fabric made fire retardant may add to it's cost. There was a vendor at PLASAnorth recently who had lots of fabric in sizes from see through thin to robust all certified fire retardant but not cheap. What are your priorities, cheap, light, fire retardant -pick two.

Use NDFR Calico, flax, twill or similar. Sagging might be a visible issue though so you would need to be careful with lighting.

You could consider using fire treated 3.6mm ply if t needs to be flat. Something like My link. Other brands and suppliers are available.

Well cheap is a relative term, I'm not looking to go cheap enough to break fire safety regs.

A bit of sag isn't too bad, the set is highly weathered to look beaten up. Will take a look at those.

Is Trevira (sp?) still easily available? Lightweight, IFR and available in colours.

Ah cheers, will have a hunt.
