Brady Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 Hi all we are currently looking at converting some of our working lights to LED to increase lamp life etc. We currently use some small working floods and we are thinking of using LED chips in these to convert them. My question is does anybody know of LED chips that are dimmable because if we can get some we can maybe use some of these in our FOH lights as well as in one of our spaces the FOH lights and working lights are the same and use the small flood (Nocturns). Any help would be great
timsabre Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 No, there is nothing to replace a linear halogen lamp which provides anywhere near the same light output, and definitely not mains dimmable ones. The only convincing dimmable working lights / house lights have seen are the GDS liteware ones, but they are really expensive.Alternatively look at white DMX controlled LED fixtures e.g. Thomann My linkEither way you will need to scrap the Nocturnes and run DMX to each position.
Dave m Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 If you are using the typical b and q type outdoor floods as workers, conversion is probably a waste of time and money. You can buy led floods for les than the conversion, although not dimmable.
Bryson Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 You can dim the Osram Kreios fixtures a bit, but they cut out at about 20%. They're pretty bright with good colour rendering if that dimming performance is workable. For houselights you're looking at a more specialist product because you need to dim to zero.
strand600X Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 The GDS ones are the best but as said really expensive. And now owned by ETC. bAZ
J Pearce Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 ETC manufacture some GDS products under license for the USA/Canada market, but not aware that ETC have bought GDS? I’ve got an extensive GDS install at work (probably at least 400 units), I can highly recommend them.
strand600X Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 Yeah we are the same in all 3 if our venuesETC have bought them but keeping Matt on till the end of the year
