Backstage security

As some may have seen in the press the national is under fire after two youtubers got in and stayed in overnight filming. At one point security challenged them, and they bluffed through it.

 

 

 

It's easy to be appalled by it, but equally we are all aware of security holes in the venues we work in, and how many security departments check schedules and are informed of changes to schedules?

My worry is that kids watching will think this is a 'cool' stunt to copy and will try and do it at their local theatres. Please check that all your doors are locked at the end of the night and that security personnel are well informed of when rehearsals are/aren't taking place and get them to probe further and challenge unknown people.

In the 80's we had kids manage to get backstage (possibly through the auditorium?) while we were at lunchThe police station happens to have been more or less next door

First we knew was the kids being arrested for waving a prop gun around outside- prop/gun security would be a bit better now

YouTube is full of "urban exploration" and some slightly freaky videos showing kids lift-surfing (riding on the top of elevators) and then going into the control rooms and pushing in relays and contactors on the live control panels. I guess the videos we don't see are the ones where the person filming met their maker.

As evidenced on Youtube it's not possible to keep out people -even if they just want to explore. Sadly it seems to be a fact of life to be minimised.

The venue where I help out is like a sieve - so no pass/id badge and you're out! If the National's security could be blagged by these chancers it's got problems...
