mounting moving heads inside a marquee

its a huge marquee im sure for its size its designed to hold things. im getting the specs as we speak and will post

there is a saying .........."size doesn't matter" . This is true of marquees too.

.......... the attachments of the moving heads are not designed to be hung off anything other that certified Tri truss/Box truss type trussing, 48mm round piping 4mm thickness and rated appropriately OR fixed to a permanent structure (ie a wall or solid beam bu way of coach screws or bolts).

If you should adapt any clamping of the units you will breach any safety concerns.

It seems you are going to go ahead no matter what advise is given to you to the contrary

You seem fixated on the weight the Marquee can hold, there is more to it than that. Marquees are NOT designed to have lighting rigged from their structures full stop!

so I repeat ....................

"Should you continue and ignore the warnings from other posters you WILL be liable for ANY injuries AND the Marquee maybe shut down by council (or appropriate authorities) due to "unsafe practises" therefore ruining the rave altogether."<br style="color: rgb(28, 40, 55); font-size: 13px; line-height: 19.5px; background-color: rgb(250, 251, 252);">

While I agree you shouldn't be rigging stuff if you aren't competent, and it does sound like the OP does not have the experience to do this, you do often see truss and equipment hung from the beams in clearspan type marquees using kader clamps.

You appear to be disregarding all the advice being offered to you. It cannot be stressed enough, you have demonstrated here that you are not competent to hang up anything (other than perhaps your jacket) in a marquee. If you ignore this advice, it will end up in tears, or worse. You haven't yet answered Kerry's question, as to whether you hold liability insurance. But even if you do, it can easily be invalidated by incompetent practices outside of manufacturer's guidelines & specifications... that very much includes hanging moving lights from a clearspan attachment designed to support a static curtain, or similar.

Where is this event being held? Is it a licenced, ticketed event, or an "underground" farcebook secret location thing?... the sort that appear in the news from time to time, generally after something has gone wrong and the OB spend a load of public money sorting out hundreds of teenagers on ketamine...

Just get a rigger mate and charge the client. (it won't be ridiculously expensive) This is a person who's job it is to safely hang structures and lights above people's heads.

It's fairly normal to outsource areas of work we ourselves are not able to do. Would you put the marquee yourself? Probably not.

When you know about rigging it is actually quite surprising how the loads can add up. Dealing with outdoor structures opens up a whole can of worms because of bad weather precautions.

Alternatively just get a few manfrottos

As someone who spent much of my misspent youth at raves and squat parties I've seen all sorts of dodgy lighting, power, and "rigging" arrangements that would make most people on here squirm. If this is the type of event you are looking to put on, then the professional opinion you will get from everyone on here will always, quite rightly, be "don't do it", as at the end of the day, this is a forum for event professionals who won't advise you to do something unsafe. This is partly because we are keen for things to be done the right way (and in many cases we've seen what happens when they are not), and partly because no-one wants to be held liable should any accident occur due to bad advice being handed out over the internet.

Any way of attaching a moving-head light to a small hanging ring is going to be a bodge, and aside from the safety concerns mentioned by others, will likely result in the whole lighting fixture swinging itself about as the head moves.

There's an argument for just putting them on a t-bar or wind-up truss near the DJ to make more of a feature of the DJ/sound system and draw people towards the music. Plus it's easier to de-rig at the end of the night/middle of next morning when your crew might be worse for wear, depending on how involved they like to get in the party...

I would agree with generally negative views already expressed by others.

The great majority of marquees are not designed to support anything but themselves, and this should be assumed to be the case unless confirmed in writing. The fixtures suggested are indeed lightweight, but still heavy enough to kill if falling from a height.

Oh and BTW, am I the only one to have noticed how appropriate is the name of the fixtures in this proposed application ! Certainly would not want MY head to be struck by a "headbanger"

Marquee hire firms will supply centre thuss if you ask them and install it for you cost should be very low as it just case of few metres of thuss and they can instill it in mind If they don't it likely you will need to make a box thruss frame. As if they don't have the kit for there kit it likey it unsafe. Let them install so it on there PLI just setup a goal post or thuss uprights pillers in corners
