timsabre Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 I'm trying to get a backdrop curtain made for our church but I can't remember what the material is called.I am familiar with black wool serge, but often I have seen black legs/borders made out of a lighter more canvassy material which still hangs ok - but what is it?
top-cat Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Bolton Twill is the thin stuff a bit like what regular household curtains are made from. Molten felt is heavier than bolton but lighter than BWS
timsabre Posted March 18, 2014 Author Posted March 18, 2014 Ta, I will give Whaleys a call and see what they can do. The black wool serge is a bit overkill for the application.
empyfree Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Bolton twill tends to pick up creases more easily than the other two materials mentioned, only a consideration if you'll be taking the cloth down a lot.
timsabre Posted March 18, 2014 Author Posted March 18, 2014 It will be taken down and stuffed in a bag every week, so it is a big consideration...
empyfree Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 We've got some twill stage skirts that I'm embarrassed to get out of their bags now! Need to take a steamer out on site...
Dave m Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Fireproofing might be an issue, but I have a large bit of black polyester that I use to frame around some kit to hide all the connectors.being polyester it doesn't crease as much as some stuff. Also, storage can help you can pleat fold rhe cloth and then roll it up and bag it
