Stuey84
I need a steam effect like a pipe bursting spray a 4 jets of steam through a rope wall. Obviously thre are inherent dangers using real steam. Has anybody any ideas about what looks good and what is easy. Bearing in mind when this happens 9 performers are in directly downstage of the effect.Hope someone can help
Brian
Smoke machines with Le Maitre's Quick or Extra Quick dispersing fluid. It's exactly what the fluid was designed for.
Ynot
Welcome to the Blue Room We discussed this in depth not long ago - search for CO2 and steam
the kid
Arguably you could use 4 mini mists it might not disperse as quick as you want but you will get that "jet"
bigclive
How long does this particular effect have to last for? The duration of the jest will determine the best technology to create them. Incidentally, low persistence fog fluid is often just the same recipe as high persistence fluid, but with more water! I did a lot of experimentation with glycerol based fluids a while back and found that while water alone created invisible steam from a fog machine, even just a few percent of glycerol would make a visible jet. At the lower concentrations it dissipated almost immediately.
J Pearce
It is worth adding that if you wanted to water down existing fluid it is recommended to use distilled water so you don't clog your machine up with limescale etc
bigclive
Good call. In Scotland the water is pure enough not to cause significant scale issues, but in other parts of the country distilled water would be a safer option.
