benweblight Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Saw this earlier:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brand-New-DMX-Flamin...=item51920077de Just wondering if this unit is actually legal for sale in the UK?As it uses DMX for the firing I'd assume there's no fail-safe and the chance of mis-firing? PS:Not considering purchasing this item...but if it is as I think illegal then should be reported to ebay.
Ynot Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Similar items have been on Ebay before, and we HAVE discussed them here.....
david.elsbury Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 If you think it's illegal then call your lawyer and ask. Otherwise you might upset people by throwing the word "illegal" around.
dunk_1984 Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I'm sure every time a thread like this comes up we conclude the same thing we did the time before. Is there anything new with this one?
dunk Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I think last time this came up we all concluded we secretly wanted one!
benweblight Posted April 18, 2010 Author Posted April 18, 2010 Ah..the only threads I remember seeing on this before were theoretical...I didnt see the post about units like thease.Serves me right for not doing a proper search beforehand.
dbuckley Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I think last time this came up we all concluded we secretly wanted one!Free post to New Zealand..... Temptation..... Drool..... Anyone know what type of gas canisters this thing uses? The machine can be air shipped, but gas cannisters cant
WiLL Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 What would be illegal would be the misuse or neglectful use of such a product. Owning a spirit stove isn't illegal, but using one to set fire to your neighbour's car is.
Daniel Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Looks similar to:http://www.stage-electrics.co.uk/productHire.aspx?code=FJ
scjb Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Except no CE marking... To my knowledge, the only units of this type that are certified for CE are this Safex Flamejett unit and the TBF Spraymaster family.
abbotsmike Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I cant recall any threads recently about specific products, but do remember a thread where is was concluded that DMX should NOT be used for pyro effects due to the DMX protocol not being specced for it, and the fact there are no fail-safes within the protocol for it.Having said that, a quick search shows that there are people who do successfully and safely use DMX in such a manner.(this one is the first that popped up http://www.blue-room.org.uk/index.php?showtopic=14085)
timtheenchanteruk Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 wouldnt like to chance the customer service, just look at the grammer in the listing.
Wingwalker Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 And you get peanuts too...WOW gotta get me one of those then
robert morley Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 OK I Have used these before and was seriously NOT impresed......... a better item is the Spray Masters from Pyrojunkies or verious companys in germany. They also use DMX but with the additoion of a dead mans handle in the power line are very safe. The workman ship on the e-bay items is so shoddy I would not use them if they where 50 meters away from a crowed and the fact you can only import the "PROPER oil" from china kind of negates the Cheep price of the units. My advice is buy quality, buy safty, and buy this side of the globe. Rob.
