Andy! Posted March 31, 2004 Posted March 31, 2004 What light apart from laser's give a really small beam. I have been using fresnels and putting them on the smallest beam. But is there anything else? Thanks
sam.henderson Posted March 31, 2004 Posted March 31, 2004 fresnels Fresnels are never good for focused beams. A profile (something like a Source four) will give you more of a focussed beam and you could use something like a pinspot for somnething even smaller. If you use haze this picks up the indervidual light beams really well. Sam
gareth Posted March 31, 2004 Posted March 31, 2004 Pinspots (Par36's) are good for really tight beams (hence the name!), and they're cheap and readily available. If you need something with a bit more 'poke', try some ACL (aircraft lights) - they come in various Par flavours, the most common being Par64. Be aware, though, that they're 28v, so you'll need to be running 8 in series (or using a suitable transformer).
Ben Posted March 31, 2004 Posted March 31, 2004 how about a profile with an iris? what is it being used for?
Andy! Posted March 31, 2004 Author Posted March 31, 2004 Its being used for a song just want to create lots of small beams flashing in random. I saw u can get barn doors for PAR64 how tight does that go?
Brian Posted March 31, 2004 Posted March 31, 2004 They don't. Hire something from a disco supplier and a hazer.
Andy! Posted March 31, 2004 Author Posted March 31, 2004 Cool Ok.We do just use smoke machines. but have it at low.
peter Posted March 31, 2004 Posted March 31, 2004 What about a couple of Profiles fitted with strobe attachments (SLX had some on their ex-hire list a while ago) and an iris, focussed onto a mirror ball? Could be kinda funky.
Andy! Posted March 31, 2004 Author Posted March 31, 2004 These Stobe attacments seem good. So how do they work etc. do you have a link for them?Still on the learning curve...
TomLyall Posted March 31, 2004 Posted March 31, 2004 well by the sounds of what your wanting to do, you'll want pinspots (par 36's) we used some of them recently and they looked really good, just the effect we wanted :P
peter Posted March 31, 2004 Posted March 31, 2004 Diversitronics make an ellipsiloidal strobe attachment. Also here. Stage Electrics Ex Hire EffectsWhite Light Hire Catalogue - page 6 - Source4 Strobe High Power (DMX) - £40/week. Peter
Jivemaster Posted March 31, 2004 Posted March 31, 2004 "beam lamps" are Par 36 6v 36w pinspotPar 36 12v 100wpar36/46/54/64 ACL(aircraft landing) 28v 250 or 450w These produce one beam Multi beams come best from a mirror ball or the 20 facet dish from a moonflower effect All need low volt supplyand the ACLs run better at 24v to allow for the lack of forced ventilation they normally have a 150mph cooling system!!!
Guest lightnix Posted March 31, 2004 Posted March 31, 2004 Sounds like a job for PAR36 (6v, 36W) pinspots to me, maybe in banks of four ? If it's just for one song there's no need to get too elaborate. The simplest ideas often work the best.
Stu Posted March 31, 2004 Posted March 31, 2004 Can't believe no-one has mentioned Strand 500w and 1kw Beamlights, they give out a 7º beam - could be useful... Stu
misterbassman Posted March 31, 2004 Posted March 31, 2004 selecon do a 5° profile, mite be handy :P bit pricey for this application tho prob
