Andy! Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 Hey I saw on www.maplin.co.uk that you can get blue smoke and scented smoke is this any good or is it mainly for discos. and does it work good or is it a bit crappy.
misterbassman Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 blue smoke?? have you got a link I didnt think it was possible to colour smoke due to the way smoke machines worked.
Andy! Posted January 30, 2004 Author Posted January 30, 2004 Mmm werid I cant see it there if you go onto maplin.co.uk and go into disco then click on smoke thats were it was I might have got confused with the blue fooger machine it was the colour of the smoke machine. and the scented one is on there too,
vinny baby Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 yes ive seen this, it doesnt actully produce Blue smoke, its just the colour of the fluid, ive also seen pink fluid as well. vince
smeggie Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 is there any use in getting this sort over the usual colourless type? or is it purely for gizmo value. cheersandrew
Jivemaster Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 Scents work if you want that sort of thing. Best used in pure water to scent the air, (ever wondered why all Bodyshop shops smell of dewberry. Coloured smoke needs vast amounts of dye in the fluid and it STAINS everything in range Leave that to the Red Arrows (residents near Scampton dislike getting their washing stained from 1000 feet- it stains that much) I have seen a pinspot used to light a colour into plain smoke
misterbassman Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 yeh I would deffinatly recommend using lighting to change the colour of smoke. The show im designing at the moment uses 2 PAR floor cans either side of each smoke jet, this seems to work quite well.

I assume it will do no damage as it is just heating the fluid, much like when you clean it. Interesting idea I had never thought of before.

I hope you were just being sarcastic!! you must not do this. body shop have aroma tech machines, that you put cartriges in, (like the plug in things you have at home from glade)
Jon T Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 Rite.....is there a link to a site where I can buy coloured smoke fluid wich produces a coloured smoke??? cheersjon
tjkerr Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 Rite.....is there a link to a site where I can buy coloured smoke fluid wich produces a coloured smoke??? cheersjonNo because it is impossible for a smoke machine to produce coloured smoke as "misterbassman" said at the top of the page the only way to make the smoke appear a different colour is to have a gel'd fixture next to the smoke machine. A bit late for this anyway guys panto's over!
Light Console Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 Sadly a cleaner used some fluid I bought with a smoke machine for a pub recently. The fluid was shocking pink for some reason, but smoke as normal.Don't supose it helped with the cleaning mind!

Yes a custom fragrance machine is better
dl_sheepy Posted February 19, 2004 Posted February 19, 2004 I read somewhere (think it was in some documents from LeMaitre) that the only way to make coloured smoke is with pyros (but then they would say that, wouldn't they :-P)I'm pretty sure I read that it is possible to make coloured, but rather toxic, smoke from a smoke machine... mmmm.... toxic....
minimac Posted March 10, 2004 Posted March 10, 2004 yea, using pyro's is the only way you will get coloured smoke, and this is not advisable if you are in a confined space. it also stains, I had yellow nostrols the last time I used it! http://www.skyhighfx.com/images/yellowsmoke.jpgskyhigh pyro's
