paulears
In the 20's, handheld microphones weren't common at all due to the size and weight of them - a typical 1920's mic being things like this:http://www.k-bay106.com/w-e_47a.jpg

Ynot
Theres a 50's one in Terralec, Cant get to the link as terralec dosnt seem to want to load at the moment.. But 50's isnt far off the 20's..Hmmm.... I presume you mean this one...?But actually, the 50's were a LOOONG way off the 20's, and I'd say that there's little chance that the 50's mic was anything like one from 30 years before!! Take a look at the pic that paul showed above..... In fact... try these:http://www.chss.montclair.edu/~pererat/i_0050.gifhttp://www.chss.montclair.edu/~pererat/i_0102.jpghttp://www.chss.montclair.edu/~pererat/i_0100.gifhttp://www.chss.montclair.edu/~pererat/i_0120.jpgIn fact, that's quite a nice site for vintage pics...! Jivemaster
The early mics were stand or desk mounted, and often had a notable "suspension" visible
