it's a single line with the desk in the middle so you should have a terminator at each end.

But  what value terminator as theres now 2 of em in the circuit, is it a simple parallel connection so 240 ohm at each end or is  there more to it?

Big, simple, enough power for any small theatre job but getting long in the tooth.

if they are still capable of doing the job why change? If there looking a bit tatty thats nothing a tin of filler, bit of sanding and bucket of tuff cab wont  cure

sockets with break contacts would be a great low-tech solution. My Google powers seem to be deserting me - any idea where I’d find such a thing?

You'll find  XLRs with built in contacts at the left end of the rainbow, just beside the pile unicorn manure. Time to add them to the wish they made thread I thinks.

And a vast choice of 5mm LEDs, only really needs two versions in each colour, a chep one and an an ultra bright one.

By that logic RS, farnell ,rapid etc must also be badly run, RS for example has nearly 100  5mm red leds to chose from.

Switch Electronics is a legit business

Indeed, ive used them sevral time when  they've  worked out cheapest. Was just initially surprised  "maplins" were back stocking actual components, and then curious when I spotted the similarity between the two sites.

I imagine the rig was left powered but not illuminated so if fans were running I'd assume they are at EOL

if the lamps not on id expect any decent fixture to ramp down or turn off the fan ,and if the kit was left on  you've removed the biggest point of failure, powering up.

an eight way unit fed by two cables, in and out as part of a ring is conceptually the same as 4 double sockets in a ring - or am I wrong,

Nope your not wrong, the problem is with spurs off  the ring ,as it stands only 1 double or 1 single socket per unfused spur is permitted, and its because of this that 3 gang sockets are fitted with a fuse,to protect us from numptys.

  7. im not disagreeing that such a beast would be dam handy, but to introduce such a beastie would require a change to the regs. Also apprentices would hate them, chopping the back box in would be a bugger of a job, those old cooker panels were bad enough.

every double socket should have a 13amp fuse fitted in case it's fed as a spur and someone plugs two tea urns into it.

26A aint to much over the rating of 2.5mm in most cases so not too much of a worry and remember we should only be drawing a maximum of 20A from double sockets anyways

An EIGHT gang 13 amp socket for fixed installation use, not a trailing socket for extension leads. Useful when large numbers of sockets are needed. Two versions, one with a 13 amp fuse when it is desired to limit the total load, and one without any such fuse and rated at 32 or 40 amps in total.

An unfused 8 gang  would require a rewrite of the wiring regs making them  a bit pricey even if you never fitted one

A software package that you can import your favourite audio file and EASILY set up cue markers alongside that file that you can then send to trigger specified cues your favourite LX desk, be that as MIDI or other protocol.

30 year ago a revox with the slide  syc function and a zero 88  sirus could do it fairly painlessly without the need for any computer assistance.

If MagicQ is failing to start on Linux, try running it from the command line (with /opt/magicq/runmagicq.sh). If errors appear similar to the following:

libGL error: MESA-LOADER: failed to open swrast (search paths /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri:\$${ORIGIN}/dri:/usr/lib/dri)
libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast

Then this is likely caused by your graphics drivers being built for a newer version of libc than MagicQ is distributed with. Try renaming /opt/magicq/lib/libstdc.so.6 to libstdc.so.6~ (this may require root) and running again; this will allow MagicQ to use the system version of libstdc.so.6. If this fails, rename the file back again and contact support.
