  1. Some years I visit Plasa Leeds show in May on the basis that it's soon after the Frankfurt show and therefore anything significant and newly released in Europe is likely to appear in Leeds.

It's a real dilemma for manufacturers - if you've got a product ready to launch, with marketing campaign and materials primed, do you hold off for 8 weeks, or just release it anyway?

I guess depends how much you want to do and spend. Is a massive press hit better than waiting for a show ?

The motorshow we had stuff at. Ready to go and they pulled it. It seems like there is still quite a bit going on, they did a bunch of press junkets and demos, I guess a day or so. But our one was a massive stand, big show off. They needed to do something, doing nothing would have been worse.

  2. The unifi stuff needs something to teach it what to do. I think you can use a phone to do config, once running it is happy, the "issue" is if you want to add a config or something you need to re attach a controller. The cloud controller is their name, so its not cloud as such, you can use AWS, any pc or a pi to run the controller if you so wish.
  3. Thanks for all the replies - some great products and suggestions there.

My favourite is definitely the TMB ProShell because it doesn’t introduce extra cable joints (we’re near the max cable length for our HDbaseT system) and can’t go missing. Does anyone know where to get them - their UK web shop is offline?

Email them. I got a quick reply.

  4. To be honest I would worry about the pressure behind a bulb. We used to do a film set up at college with a plant sprayer, it worked pretty well and had a good effect, the issue was it was more of a gunshot than a squirt but I think with regulation and better work, it would work.
  5. I think some of the NJD and Abstract products of this era did have some kind of DMX control, 3 pin of course.

There were some that had DMX on a 6.35mm jack too.

Surprisingly some of the Astera wireless transmitters take their DMX in via a 3.5mm jack, which is very annoying when someone loses the adapter!

    I think they all do

Still not exactly sure why its formed as a belt pack.

  6. +1 for acre jean

and +1 for the foil and spray bottle on windows

Are you doing a blackout blackout ? Having done a show in a 100% black out (the kind where you could be in a cave as your eyes cannot see light ever) light soapy water sprayed on windows, then foil. THEN small dabs of tape where you see light. THEN drapes.

Tape on a window will be horrible to remove if its in the sun even in winter. And could easily start to fall off in the winter with condensation.

If you are doing a full black out it took 4 people 2 days to do a room. The issue if it is full blackout is light appears from the strangest places.

  7. I recall years ago a children's theater show someone using this setup for a minidisk player set just off stage with no issues. They had backup stomp boxes hidden in the stage to fire if it stopped working but by all accounts they never had an issue. I think the lag might be an issue if your going for special flashes etc but I couldn't say.
  8. We've made our own out of those hessian covered exhibition boards that were very popular in the 70's. Quite heavy and work quite well, but opaque, of course.

Like office deviders ? Schools / Colleges might have some floating around in that case.

  9. They were useless as they were just to tired but who's fault is it? and who says the gig is off because the locals are to tired?

IMHO thats 100% the crew boss. If someone booked 20 guys over 4 full days over 2 sites and each day its the same guys, Knowing full well no one is paying for hotels / transport etc then its your responsability to say "I dont have the guys who can do that" or "sure I have the guys but we need accomidation".

Easier said than done. As JSB says its about rep, and if you say no to crew, you will loose out on jobs, and your guys have no work. Its a cycle.

  10. As far as I’m aware, the whole point of omega brackets is that they fit pretty much all Martin fixtures. I know you can rig Mac Minis off just one single bracket, and 250s, 300s, 500s, and 600s off two, so I’d be amazed if you need specific brackets just for the Krypton range.

    You would think that.

It's a whole other range for sure but the rush mh4 and mh6 omegas are different, not lots. Literly a few mm, not really seen, until a crew guys tries to put a mh6 omega on a mh4 unit, gets it on but makes it almost impossible to take off again.
