It is a piece of performance art, so we can’t use triggered sfx.

I don’t have to make it, I am just tying to help someone remotely.

I am working with someone who wants to do a performance using contact mics/ tie clips on  a wooden floor (that may have to be made)

The idea is that the floor will be built to deliberately creak so the noise can be miked up.

Any idea on a structure that we could build with built in creak? Obviously getting rid of creaks is a topic on here.

Tascam do a recorder specifically for DSLs. I have used a fair few “40’s” which are similar to a Zoom. But the DSLR one is about £150-175 and better aimed at DSLRs. 

But if the X32 can do a 48k usb recording it should be simple to sync

I’ve never played with a DSLR seriously, other than a few short takes. I do long form. Do DSLRs still shut off after 20 mins?

Some of my recordings I take a feed from a house desk to a recorder but many of my recordings I do using the built in mics as a guide only. Then sync a desk recording in post. (Or do both) 

I have  a terrible distrust of wireless because if it goes down it goes south really quickly.

Why do you want to do it? is it for a live relay or recording?

The x32 can record to a USB and you could synch in post?

but we used to buy batteries direct from Panasonic. Just general C cells and smaller.
A 7 ton truck arrived and the driver was ages so we stood around for probably ten minutes while he searched and got more stroppy.

Eventually he found a card of maybe ten LR44s with a bit a paper stapled to it among pallets of batteries.

They could have just used a Jiffy bag.

Slide projectors are cheap, but 24/7 would cost a fortune in lamps.

A shopping centre near me uses pavement projectors but last time I looked they were £800 or so.

I’d be tempted to go the window route and get large transparencies made, or cut masks out of thin material? Light using LED panels

I made my own pyro kit 25 years ago. 
 

Pretty sure that I used 5 Amp mains sockets, inside a metal single wall box. 
I used a seven? Pin din as the firing signal alongside a control box with four channels with key switch plus “fire”:button.

Not sure that I’d make one today!

One thing that I learned 40 years ago was to stick a loaded rack or speaker on a knife edge type device to find the centre of gravity before adding handles. Mainly because Trace Elliot at the time seemed incapable of making speakers that didn’t snap your wrists as soon as you lifted a huge cabinet with centred handles yet a ton of speakers in the front.

or a rack sleeve with a ball and socket style projector mount if orientation is tricky?

Are you connected to a computer and the software?

The audio inputs are stereo, at Mic level, but can be switched in software to line in.

The software also gives you an audio mixer control, or allows the levels to be adjusted and left for an audio feed.

Bung it on eBay with customer collects. As lamps cease to be made, their value goes down.

I was offered a ton of stuff when a mate went all LED but to be fair, most of the old stuff is regarded as junk/spares

A long time ago a girlfriend worked at Warwick Arts centre and I have a feeling there was something similar between the Studio and Theatre? But we are talking 40 years ago so my memory may be wrong.

I have a few, used in an Art context. Very dim over anything over 5 metres. Might be better in a DBO - I don’t have a good black out.

As said, esoteric button selection for colours on the back, simple sound to light works ok. Colour fringe is visible.  Several have died on me and at that price, after a fuse check (mine came with 13A plug) I just binned them.

There are a few companies on eBay selling ex hire stock?

I have used magic arms a lot, you could use a short scaff pole with either a superclamp or coupler/scaff/tube clamp

Is this for pre show?

Place I used to work in used Birdies with tungsten lamps. They create a nice ambience.

Where I am now, I use them with LED lamps but not dimmed. As it happens, I ordered some dimmable LED G10 lamps to try.

I doubt that they will smoothly dim to dbo but just a suggestion?

is there a drop behind you? You could drape some black tat behind the rear rail and have crew hand it up on cue

Also, if inflatable (some real ones are incredibly light) you could under-inflate it so that it more easily hides yet looks full if handled?

Hi we are building a small AV studio, about 80 sq M. It's basically a conversion of an existing building.

I have zero faith in the design team who try to cut costs and insist we have to accept what we are given. I want to use COB video /photo lights from the ceiling as we have no storage space to keep them plus H&S get fussy about stands and floor cables. The space is multipurpose so getting the lights up and out of of the way is good.

I hope to use Doughty studio rail to move the lights bout and also use it for the drapes around the perimeter. That way we can have one set of accessories to fit the tracks and potentially hang projectors/TVs off any track that works. The design team insists on a false ceiling and I don't know why as I lose 500mm that way.

I would prefer that the rail is installed by a theatre supplier endnote by "Bob the Builder"

I have seen it done by stacking washers over the stud, then using the nut to jack out the stud as far as possible.

use a cut off disc on a grinder/ dremel. And hammer the remaining stud back in.

If you are lucky it falls out the back into the hole

or use the above but rather than hammering, use a reverse drill to spin the remaining stud back inwards.

just had an idea.

if you can damage the ceiling, a bit, use a studding extender nut welded to a metre long handle and “stir”  the handle to enlarge the bore of the hole?

It ain’t cheap but the VEO sports camera does a good job of recording pitches
