AVD Multiplay

Hi, I'm just starting out with MP, like it so far, just one thing I can't work out, and sure its me missing something,

Press space to start some walk on music for the cast, track is about 2 mins long and they are all on in <30 seconds, I then have to click fade all to stop the track and then go to start the next cue which is the backing track for the song.

What I am wanting to do it click go / press space to start the walk on, then when they are all on, press space again, have the walk on music fade and the backing track start, all on one click / press. I have had a play with the various actions, but haven't managed to work it out.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Andrew

Make the first music cue "Start Advance" in its properties menu. Add a control cue "volume change" with an appropriate fade time and "End Play"

When you start the music it will play until you hit the space-bar again. It will then fade out and start to play the next track. A bit of experimenting with the fade time will help.

Do you want to loop a certain section, or use multiplay to set a video looping indefinitely?

If the latter, Just set the cue advance to "End Play" the same cue again.

If you want to be able to break out of this loop you could either press esc (bit of a messy solution) or have a play around with the wait and control cue functions. I had a go but wasn't getting anywhere and need sleep now.

Looping a certain section doesn't seem to be possible at this time, but I may be wrong.

Thank you for your answer...

the version with the esc-option isn't going to work because I have running audio through multiplay at the same time and don't want to stop playing this audio cue's....

If you change the cue advance to "end play" and select the same cue you get an erro, because it's the same cue you're targetting :(

If the video is similar to regular sound cues, set the repeat column to 0 for endless. Can then break out of loop with a control cue. Sorry but don't have software installed here on work computer to check it out.

Hi All.

Having a small issue with Multiplay, unsure if it's fixable within Multiplay or not, but this seemed the best place for it.

Windows 7 PC, running a USB sound card (Miditech Audioface 2).

Basically, if no audio is produced for a short while, there is a lag before the next cue plays. only a fraction of a second, but enough to make me miss the visual cues I have.

I'm aware of software like soundstay for mac, but cannot find anything PC based.

Short of putting in a cue of silence before each of my point cues that I activate just before it's needed, can anybody think of a fix for this?

Thanks

Jonny.

It's likely that Windows is turning off the USB Port to save power. TO fix this, do the following.

Go to Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

Open each one in turn and select the power management tab (if there is one) and ensure that the option to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is turned off.

I've been using Multiplay ever since needing a replacement for QLab after my mac got tipsy and tried my Gin and Tonic, she's never been the same.

Anyways, like all MP users I've encountered the "One or more tracks could not be added" message a few times. Usually resaving the file works, or I have the option of a different audio track.

This time no such luck. I've resaved the file in multiple formats, erased the metadata, but still it won't load.

Do you have any insight on this problem or should I go find another audio track for it?

Running Multiplay on Win7 (a new Asus lappy, should be more than up to the task) and noticing a very frustrating problem.

Preview is tomorrow and we open Friday, I've got a workaround for now but just wanting to seek some feedback so that I can sort out a reproducable (I hope) bug report to send to David Duffy.

Basically I have a mixture of audio, control and telnet cues (MP is controlling Lightfactory via Telnet)

The cues are WAV files as W7 has issues with Multiplay and mp3. Not all of them are particularly large, maybe 20-50meg and 0:30-3:00 in size/length.

I have some cues set to "Advance Play" the following cues so that Lx and Sx travel together, but the behaviour is not restricted to these "groups", single cues do it also.

There is a delay between my hitting the "go" button, and the Sx cue playing, sometimes up to 7 seconds or so, which, given these are timed for a particular SFX in the play, is a Very Bad Thing.

But if I mute the audio (on sound desk) and run the cue, let it play for a few seconds, stop it and go back, it plays straight away on cue.

I have disabled USB power saving, (was using a USB soundcard, now using laptop sound and problem still persists) and all the options I can find to do with power saving are on high performance, or "do not allow to sleep/disable/spin down hdd".

The workaround is to copy the cue, have it play 2sec at min volume and then stop, and to trigger this 10sec before the real cue is played.

Since some of these cues are in groups which trigger LX, I can't run the actual cues for obvious reasons.

I know Qlab apparantly pre-loads cues, which is a feature MP doesn't seem to have.

Thoughts please? I'm toying with the idea of copying everything to my WinXP netbook (rather less powerful) as a backup/spare/might work better but I think the workaround is ok... I hope...

Cheers

David

I was going to post on this after double checking stuff, I have had the same issue last week.

cheers for the workaround.

not seen the issue with mp3, but don't think I had any mp3s in the show last week.

twas a bit annoying as its a new machine, I had not noticed the issue playing around with multiplay on my desktop, but there again a pause may not have registered with me as a pause with no timing involved, my testing was more on stability and trying to break it!!

had a quick play whilst setting up my playlist this evening.

It seems to only do it if the next cue is not triggered for a couple of minutes.

If you play the next cue straight after the previous one has finished/been stopped it is instant (as you would expect) however if you leave it a couple of minutes, there is the pause (of no fixed length, varies from less than half a second to 6 seconds is the max I have had this eve)

Ive not managed to get to see how long a pause before playing a cue triggers the playback delay, got to 5 mins and it was still doing it.

I have a couple of mp3s in my next show, all top quality ones, Ill have a listen, and convert to .wav in needed.
