Lightnetwork moved

Recommended Posts

The forum www.lightnetwork.com has moved to its own server away from Delphi. It tends to be a bit more U.S. centred than here but is a very useful resource.

The move has included the archive of postings from the last 8 years and is now fully searchable giving another place to look up those odd questions that may have come up before.

Just been reading it: Looks like they're using custom-written software by the guy who runs Redmonkey. Sounds interesting!

Apparently, Commercial Forum software is just too expensive. Well, we don't run any ads and we can afford it.... :P

That's commercial forum *sites* not software.

Your average commercial web based forum application is typically a one off payment in the region of £150, that one off payment invariably includes updates and upgrades for the lifetime of the product, actually, I consider that to be a bargain (assuming of course, it meets your requirements). In my experience a custom software solution is definately never the cheaper option, sometimes it's the only option, and certainly in this case, the pros of such a solution far out-weigh the cons.
