Stage curtain repairs - midlands

I've been approached by a local school asking where they can get their torn stage tabs repaired. Now it's been a while since I've had anything repaired, (have replaced many over the years from Whaleys), so looking for a couple of midlands based companies who might have the wherewithal to do this so I can point the school at them (as well as recommending getting a replacement cost in case the repair is wildly expensive).

Cheers

I would have looked at canvas and marquee companies if the theatricals like Camstage were not suitable. Been out of it for too long to be more specific. Specialised Canvas over at Chesterfield sew up torn bell tents if that is of use.

Just remembered that you could try Andy Breward at Kingsmead Marquees in Frolesworth who at least used to have marquee canvas sewing machines. That's about 10 miles from you.

By the time they've been posted, cleaned, repaired, retreated with fire retardant, and returned you may well be at the point of buying new ones. Repairs of anything larger than a very small tear rarely look good, especially in the twill fabric that schools usually end up with rather than serge.

I'd talk to all the usual drape suppliers, JC Joel, Blackout, Whaleys, JD McDougalls etc. Or take an alternative approach and look at other industries who can handle large panels of fabric.

That's pretty much what I've warned them of.

There's a guy I used to work with, who has a little business repairing drapes, based in the Midlands. Turns up on your stage with seeing machines and does repairs on situ. Certainly used to do any running repairs at the ICC in Birmingham. I'll see if I can dig out a number and find out if he still does this.
