Remembrance Day 2020

In the end it's just tools, & what you're happy with in a failure-not-an-option situation. If you know what you're doing it will sound ok, regardless of what's on top of your stands. The guy I took over from used lots of little 100v boxes round the front of the audience area, which didn't sound too bad, until the day water got in his 24v amp(s) overnight.....

With very rare exceptions I will only use horns where I have to go battery-powered, but they have their uses, especially as a life-raft if your mains is not totally secure (I now have permanent main & back-up 16A power for the Remembrance gig, so only need to carry a spare amp & mixer).

Meanwhile, back on topic, how did others get on this year?

The illumination event at our local church that I mentioned previously seemed to go down very well. Had quite a few people out on their evening stroll come and have a look and take a few photographs.

Everyone was very compliant with social distancing in the churchyard but there were only a few family bubbles there at any one time. Even got a story on the local news website! Sounds like I may have the job for next year.

For speech clarity and projection I've always found horns win everytime using a fraction of the power of cabs and without blasting the nearfield and with careful eq'ing the musak is acceptable. For fetes etc where dance music is required for displays then black cabs go in for that zone.

Remembrance has 100% backup except speakers and speaker cables, all wired in ready to switch on.

It’s stunning in person, one of my favourite SOH projections.
