PoE over fibre optic?

Connecting network switches in 2 venues (approx. 100m apart) via fibre optic. I need a tannoy control module in venue 1 (routed via the network switch) to provide PoE to its microphone pager in venue 2, which will get plugged into the other network switch. Will the fibre optic line be able to accommodate this?

No, by definition as fibre optic uses light to communicate there is no way to supply PoE over fibre. However the switch that the paging mic is plugged into may be able to supply it, or you can use a PoE injector. Edited January 14, 2020 by david.elsbury

That would be a hell of a laser to supply enough power for PoE. ;)

 

Just get the second network switch with PoE (if that's possible) or use an injector as suggested. I don't love injectors as they're janky bits of kit usually, but if you need it, then....
