Custom mixing station for Behringer XR18

Hi all,

I've been thinking about constructing a custom computer for operating a XR18 based on a Raspberry Pi 4, In a similar way to a custom Chamsys Magic Q console.

I was considering using a Mini ITX motherboard PC but am now thinking along the lines of a Raspberry Pi running Linux. The 24" screen, keyboard and peripherals all built into a custom flightcase.

Although the RP supports WiFi I'd use a hard wired Cat5 connection to the XR18.

I'd welcome any thoughts about the running the Linux version of the Behringer X-Air application or any other suggestions regarding the console form factor.

Many thanks

The mixing station app is rather good and controls quite a few mixers, including the X-air devices - but if you have a 24" touchscreen this would be neat = but why limit it to just X-air products - the mixing station does Behringer/Midas. Allen and Heath Qu and GLD, plus Soundcraft Is, so that's a product already available and useful?

Being fairly new to digital mixing, I cant comment on apps and interfaces, but a long time user of pis, I'd recommend some sort of uninteruptable PSU.I have a PiJuice HAT that provides buttons for start up and safe shutdown, It will shutdown the pi automatically and safely in a power fail.Ive used it for almost a year (Pi3 and small 3 1/2 inch touchscreen controlling my home automation system with no failed/corrupted SD cards.T

Or are you thinking of having physical faders? I made a remote for our xr16 with real faders using an akai midimix going into a vb.net app which then sent osc commands over network to the xr16. With a small change it also controlled an x32. Should be easily doable on a pi in python or something. The osc protocol is well documented.

You could also run Mixing Station to give control the more complex stuff.
